چکیده
Abstract This study examines the relationship between frozen hydrometeors and latent heating in model simulations evaluates capability of Weather Research Forecasting (WRF) Model to reproduce observed their tropical cyclone (TC) intensification. Previous modeling studies have emphasized importance both amount location modulating evolution TC intensity. However, lack observations limits a full understanding its real atmosphere. Idealized using WRF indicate that is strongly correlated ice water content, suggesting content can serve as an observable proxy for heat release mid- upper troposphere. Based on this result, satellite are used create storm-centered composites path function The reasonably captures vertical horizontal distribution dependence upon intensity, with differences typically less than 20%. also signature increased intensifying TCs, provide useful diagnostic evaluating

Tropical cyclone intensification trends during satellite era (1986–2010)
[1] Using International Best Track Archive for Climate Stewardship (IBTrACS, version v03r03) analysis during satellite era (1986–2010) we determined the trends of intensification of tropical cyclones (TC) over all the global basins, except the North Indian Ocean. Over all the basins, the rate of TC intensification from 64 kt to first peak of intensity maxima (global average value = 104 kt) was ...
متن کاملParadigms for tropical cyclone intensification
We review the four main paradigms of tropical cyclone intensification that have emerged over the past five decades, discussing the relationship between them and highlighting their strengths and weaknesses. A major focus is on a new paradigm articulated in a series of recent papers using observations and highresolution, three-dimensional, numerical model simulations. Unlike the three previous pa...
متن کاملMesoscale Interactions in Tropical Cyclone Genesis
With the multitude of cloud clusters over tropical oceans, it has been perplexing that so few develop into tropical cyclones. The authors postulate that a major obstacle has been the complexity of scale interactions, particularly those on the mesoscale, which have only recently been observable. While there are well-known climatological requirements, these are by no means sufficient. A major rea...
متن کاملToward Clarity on Understanding Tropical Cyclone Intensification
The authors review an emerging paradigm of tropical cyclone intensification in the context of the prototype intensification problem, which relates to the spinup of a preexisting vortex near tropical storm strength in a quiescent environment. In addition, the authors review briefly what is known about tropical cyclone intensification in the presence of vertical wind shear. The authors go on to e...
متن کاملRapid intensification and the bimodal distribution of tropical cyclone intensity
The severity of a tropical cyclone (TC) is often summarized by its lifetime maximum intensity (LMI), and the climatological LMI distribution is a fundamental feature of the climate system. The distinctive bimodality of the LMI distribution means that major storms (LMI >96 kt) are not very rare compared with less intense storms. Rapid intensification (RI) is the dramatic strengthening of a TC in...
