Using Telecollaboration to Develop English Learners’ Intercultural Competence in the Chinese Context

One of the most recent concerns foreign language education is intercultural competence, which has been recognized as one its major objectives due to increasingly globalized context. Intercultural competence was even incorporated in National Standards Teaching Quality for Undergraduate English Majors issued by Ministry Education China 2015. Telecollaboration argued be an effective tool develop students’ especially post-epidemic era, face-to-face communication seems difficult realize. Based on Chinese scholars’ assessment framework, research aims explore ways improve learners’ carrying out empirical study engagement among 30 junior students at Hebei Finance University China. They were paired up with 27 who majored graphic design Ibrahim Sultan Polytechnic Malaysia and communicated through WeChat given culture topics six weeks. Quantitative data collected pre- post-project self-evaluative questionnaires, analyzed SPSS samples T-test analysis. Qualitative reflective journals interviews content The results show telecollaboration project between Malaysian benefited development majors’ competence.
