Abstract Funding Acknowledgements Type of funding sources: Public grant(s) – National budget only. Main source(s): Instituto de Salud Carlos III, Sociedad Española Cardiología Background Aortic stiffness is a predictor incident cardiovascular events and mortality in the general population (1). Cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging allow to compute number parameters, such as pulse wave velocity (PWV), distensibility (AD) aortic longitudinal strain, theoretically related wall stiffness, but no formal validation has ever been reported. Purpose To test correlation between PWV, AD strain assessed via ex-vivo mechanical testing specimens. Methods Patients undergoing ascending aorta (AAo) aneurysms resection underwent CMR study which included bSSFP images 4D flow thoracic aorta. At surgery 2 AAo specimens (each 15x5 mm, one oriented other circumferential direction) were extracted, maintaining record their in-vivo position orientation, frozen. Specimens tested under control for extension force (I5558, INSTRON) elongation was quantifies by laser video extensometer (2663–281, INSTRON). The Young's modulus (E), i.e. tangent stress-strain curve, quantified at patient’s diastolic pressure during (2). PWV extracted from product Eh (h being thickness) computed Moens-Korteweg equation using mean diameter(3,4). cine pulmonary artery level ARTFUN software (INSERM U678, France) while deformation tracking root cardiac cycle (5). Results Twenty patients included: age 52.5 [37.3 71.0] years, 13 (65%) male, BSA 1.94 [1.74 1.94] m2. Most had degenerative origin tricuspid valve, bicuspid 9 connective tissue disorders. Due missing data, two could not have specimen direction patient be tested. strongly associated with elastic blood (R = 0.652, R 0.602 -0.502, respectively) (Figure 1). Strong association also obtained -0.513). Conclusion Pulse derived product, non-invasively are reliable representation stiffness.

Increased aortic stiffness in adolescents with type 1 diabetes by cardiac magnetic resonance
Background Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the number one cause of mortality in patients with type 1 diabetes (T1D). There is evidence that maladaptive vascular changes associated with diabetes have already occurred as early as adolescence and that markers of aortic stiffness has been shown to be important predictors of early CVD risk. In this study, we evaluate the central distensibility, a me...
متن کاملCardiovascular magnetic resonance assessment of the aortic valve stenosis: an in vivo and ex vivo study
BACKGROUND Aortic valve area (AVA) estimation in patients with aortic stenosis may be obtained using several methods. This study was undertaken to verify the cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) planimetry of aortic stenosis by comparing the findings with invasive catheterization, transthoracic (TTE) as well as tranesophageal echocardiography (TEE) and anatomic CMR examination of autopsy spe...
متن کاملQuantification of aortic stiffness across the cardiac cycle using magnetic resonance elastography
Background The measurement of arterial stiffness has long been a reliable method of determining the severity and risk involved with many cardiovascular diseases [1]. Magnetic resonance elastography (MRE), a non-invasive MRI-based technique, has recently been applied to measure aortic stiffness [2]. The aim of this study is to determine MRE-derived shear stiffness (μMRE) of the abdominal aorta o...
متن کاملAssessment of aortic stiffness by cardiovascular magnetic resonance following the treatment of severe aortic stenosis by TAVI and surgical AVR
BACKGROUND Aortic stiffness is increasingly used as an independent predictor of adverse cardiovascular outcomes. We sought to compare the impact of transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) and surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR) upon aortic vascular function using cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) measurements of aortic distensibility and pulse wave velocity (PWV). METHODS AN...
متن کاملthoracoabdominal aortic aneurysms
over the last 50 years, significant progress has been made in the surgical repair of thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysms (taaa). improvements in perioperative care and surgical techniques have resulted in reductions in complication and mortality rates. adjunctive use of distal aortic perfusion and cerebrospinal fluid drainage has been especially helpful, reducing the incidence of neurological d...
