Survival of viral pathogens in animal feed ingredients under transboundary shipping models
The goal of this study was to evaluate survival of important viral pathogens of livestock in animal feed ingredients imported daily into the United States under simulated transboundary conditions. Eleven viruses were selected based on global significance and impact to the livestock industry, including Foot and Mouth Disease Virus (FMDV), Classical Swine Fever Virus (CSFV), African Swine Fever V...
متن کاملTransmission and pathogenesis of vesicular stomatitis viruses
Vesicular Stomatitis (VS) is caused by Vesicular stomatitis viruses (VSV), negative single stranded RNA arthropod-borne members of the Family Rhabdoviridae. The VSV virion is composed of the host derived plasma membrane, the envelope, and an internal ribonucleoprotein core. The envelope contains a transmembrane glycoprotein, the G protein, which mediates viral entry and exit from the cell. The ...
متن کاملThermal inactivation of foot-and-mouth disease viruses in suspension.
The heat resistance of foot-and-mouth disease virus (FMDV) strains isolated from outbreaks in Thailand was investigated in phosphate-buffered saline (PBS) at 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, and 100 degrees C. The first-order kinetic model fitted most of the observed linear inactivation curves. The ranges of decimal-reduction time (D value) of FMDV strains at 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, and 100 degrees C were 732 t...
متن کاملVesicular Stomatitis Virus–Based Vaccines against Lassa and Ebola Viruses
We demonstrated that previous vaccination with a vesicular stomatitis virus (VSV)-based Lassa virus vaccine does not alter protective efficacy of subsequent vaccination with a VSV-based Ebola virus vaccine. These findings demonstrate the utility of VSV-based vaccines against divergent viral pathogens, even when preexisting immunity to the vaccine vector is present.
متن کاملFoot-and-mouth disease virus (FMDV) vaccines
Foot-and-mouth is a disease of global socioeconomic importance, with vaccination the principle tool for control in endemic countries. Improvements in vaccines require advances in our understanding of the host immune response, one aspect of which the study group is asked to consider. Major problems limit the capacity of FMDV vaccines to control infections in developing countries. The virus is no...
