Intracranial arterialized venous angioma: case report with new insights from functional brain MRI.

We present the case of a 58-year-old man who suffered a left thalamic intracerebral hemorrhage. Brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed an incidental venous angioma in the left frontal lobe. Further elucidated by cerebral angiography and functional MRI, this venous angioma exhibited arteriovenous shunting. The arterialized venous angioma represents an uncommon, "mixed" intracranial vasc...

Magnetic resonance imaging of a venous angioma.

A 40-year-old man was admitted for evaluation of focal motor seizures of the right lower leg, progressing to generalized tonic-clonic convulsions. His first seizure occurred about 1 week before admission. He had been having occasional bitemporal headaches over the preceding 2 years , but was otherwise healthy. Physical examination and laboratory studies were unremarkable. An electroencephalogra...

Venous Angioma, Cavernous Angioma, and Hemorrhage

In this issue of AJNR, Wilms et al ( 1) add to the ongoing debate whether the venous angioma, more recently called developmental venous anomaly (2), can be symptomatic, whether it alone can bleed, or whether such hemorrhage occurs because of the concomitant occurrence of a cavernous angioma . This debate is not just semantic. It is essential to pathophysiologic understanding of a given lesion s...

Aqueduct compression from venous angioma: MR findings.

Vascular compression as the cause of aqueductal stenosis is rare. In a 16-year-old girl with hydrocephalus, MR imaging provided evidence of aqueductal stenosis caused by a venous angioma in the tectum and midbrain. This indicates the usefulness of MR imaging for the evaluation of obstructive hydrocephalus.

Cavernous angioma associated with venous angioma--two case reports.

A 17-year-old male and a 28-year-old female presented with cavernous angioma and venous angioma colocated in the same region, and manifesting as convulsions. The cavernous angiomas were extirpated without damage to the venous angioma. No postoperative neurological deficits were observed. The patients have been free of convulsions without anticonvulsant medication for 2 years. Early extirpation ...
