Vortex Motion Quantifies Strong Dissipation in a Holographic Superfluid

Holographic duality provides a description of strongly coupled quantum systems in terms weakly gravitational theories higher-dimensional space. It is challenge, however, to quantitatively determine the physical parameters corresponding generic holographic theories. Here, we address this problem for two-dimensional superfluid, known exhibit strong dissipation. We numerically simulate motion vortex dipole and perform high-precision matching dynamics resulting from dissipative Gross-Pitaevskii equation. Excellent agreement found core shape spatio-temporal trajectories. A further comparison Hall-Vinen-Iordanskii equations point vortices interacting with superfluid allows us friction superfluid. Our results suggest that can be applied experimentally accessible superfluids like ultracold Bose gases or thin helium films temperatures Kelvin range. This would make far-from-equilibrium turbulence amenable experimental tests.
