When they want to take away what is “ours”: Collective ownership threat and negative reactions towards refugees

چکیده

People can display negative reactions towards those who challenge their sense of psychological ownership. We tested whether natives would show negativity refugees upon perceiving collective ownership threat (COT)—the fear losing control over a territory that is perceived to be “ours”—in the context mass immigration (Syrian in Turkey; total N = 1,598). Correlational Studies 1 and 2 demonstrated COT associated with intolerance through intergroup emotions (anger specifically). Preregistered experimental studies while there was no causal effect neighborhoods relatively high refugee concentration (Study 3a), decreased outgroup tolerance increased defensive Syrian via anger among more general community sample 3b). The wider implications one’s territorial are discussed.

How do cells know what they want to be when they grow up? Lessons from epidermal patterning in Arabidopsis.

Because the plant epidermis is readily accessible and consists of few cell types on most organs, the epidermis has become a well-studied model for cell differentiation and cell patterning in plants. Recent advances in our understanding of the development of three epidermal cell types, trichomes, root hairs, and stomata, allow a comparison of the underlying patterning mechanisms. In Arabidopsis,...

Why Don’t They Do What We Want Them to Do?

This paper describes an investigation into the factors affecting a student’s decision whether to construct a state transition diagram in order to verify the correctness of a concurrent program, or whether to verbally verify the program. We conjectured that the advantages of the visual formal tool would cause it to be adopted as a routine part of the students’ practice, but in fact the verbal de...
