Why are geographical indications unevenly distributed over Europe?

Purpose Through geographical indications, the European Union aims to stimulate economies, especially in lagging rural regions, and help consumers recognise locate quality products from specific regions. The highly uneven distribution of with that unequal benefits this policy, have been identified discussed scientific literature on food development. Design/methodology/approach Using a statistical analysis paper tests validity several theoretical explanations are offered for spatial distribution. Findings From assessment, concludes, amongst others, common single-cause labels Europe weak explanatory value. Rather, is based complex set causes, different effects at national regional level.
