Wild Felid Diversity, Space Use and Activity Patterns in the Eastern Himalaya, India

چکیده
Species with similar resource requirements cannot coexist for long. To facilitate co-existence, carnivores adapt different strategies to partition the available resources in space and time. In high-altitude ecosystems limited operation becomes complex. We assessed species diversity spatio-temporal partitioning among felid inhabiting intricate habitats of Khangchendzonga Biosphere Reserve (KBR), Eastern Himalaya. used systematic camera trap surveys along abundance overlap indices generate information on their use activity patterns. recorded six felids belonging five genera, including four global conservation importance. The differential by was observed respect habitat types determined sharp altitudinal gradients varied levels spatial overlap. Maximum Asiatic golden cat Catopuma temminckii, jungle Felis chaus clouded leopard Neofelis nebulosa. had distinct profiles from one other, particularly between Prionailurus bengalensis. Pianka’s index also provided weak evidence temporal species. overall results indicate that heterogeneity facilitates primary separation at scale, although are segregated temporally. Golden most adaptive area, depicting a peculiar pattern segregation other suspect either intense competition or dietary some species, propose further investigation diet patterns prey. study presents an early template carnivore community organization resource-scarce environments, thus, offering huge ecological significance.

Diversity and use of wild and non-cultivated edible plants in the Western Himalaya
BACKGROUND Local people in the Himalayan region use a wide range of wild and non-cultivated edible plants (WNEPs) for food, spice, medicinal, and cultural purposes. However, their availability, use, status and contribution to livelihood security are poorly documented, and they have been generally overlooked in recent agro-biodiversity conservation and management programmes. The study aimed to i...
متن کاملElevational Gradients in Bird Diversity in the Eastern Himalaya: An Evaluation of Distribution Patterns and Their Underlying Mechanisms
BACKGROUND Understanding diversity patterns and the mechanisms underlying those patterns along elevational gradients is critically important for conservation efforts in montane ecosystems, especially those that are biodiversity hotspots. Despite recent advances, consensus on the underlying causes, or even the relative influence of a suite of factors on elevational diversity patterns has remaine...

efl students gender and socioeconomic status: the use of politeness strategies in the first and second languages
within the components of communicative competence, a special emphasis is put on the “rules of politeness,” specifically the politeness strategies (brown and levinson, 1978) that speakers deploy when performing the request speech act. this is because the degree of imposition that making a request places upon one’s interlocutor(s) has been seen to be influenced by several factors among which, as ...
