X-ray phase contrast imaging using a grating interferometer
the differences in the absorption cross section of the constituents of the object. The technique yields excellent results where highly absorbing structures, e.g., bones, are embedded in a matrix of relatively weakly absorbing material, e.g., the surrounding tissue of the human body. However, in those cases where different forms of tissue with similar absorption crosssections are under investiga...
متن کاملSubnanoradian X-ray phase-contrast imaging using a far-field interferometer of nanometric phase gratings
Hard X-ray phase-contrast imaging characterizes the electron density distribution in an object without the need for radiation absorption. The power of phase contrast to resolve subtle changes, such as those in soft tissue structures, lies in its ability to detect minute refractive bending of X-rays. Here we report a far-field, two-arm interferometer based on the new nanometric phase gratings, w...
متن کاملDevelopment of an X-Ray Interferometer for High-Resolution Phase-Contrast X-Ray Imaging
An X-ray interferometer for high-resolution phase-contrast X-ray imaging was developed by thinning the central part of the analyzer crystal of a triple Laue-case (LLL) X-ray interferometer. The interferometer was tested at beamline 47XU at the SPring-8, and the improvement of the resolution of interference patterns was successfully observed for a plastic sphere of 1 mm diameter.
متن کاملPhase contrast X - ray imaging
In the last decade X-ray imaging based on phase contrast greatly advanced thanks to the use of unmonochromatic synchrotron hard X-rays. The recent advances are going beyond microradiology and microtomography to reach nanometre scale. This paper reviews basic theory and selected applications to biomedical and materials sciences. The forthcoming improvements in phase contrast X-ray imaging will l...
متن کاملPhase-Contrast X-ray imaging
Virtually all X-rays imaging in a medical or biological context is performed by measuring differences in the attenuation of X-rays by the tissues. The material properties are inferred from the differences in the number of photons detected at the end of defined paths in the sample. Naturally then this form of X-ray imaging concentrates almost entirely on the particle side of X-ray behaviour. The...
