Zinc isotope evidence for carbonate alteration of oceanic crustal protoliths of cratonic eclogites

چکیده
Zinc isotopic compositions (?66ZnJMC-Lyon) of low-MgO (<13 wt.%) and high-MgO (>16 eclogites from the Koidu kimberlite complex, Sierra Leone, West African Craton, help constrain origins cratonic eclogites. The ?66Zn range MORB-like to significantly higher values (0.21‰ 0.75‰), correlate inversely with Zn concentrations. Since marine carbonates are characterized by lower concentration than basaltic rocks, suggested originate altered oceanic crustal protoliths that underwent exchange within crust during subduction. Compared eclogites, all but one also have high (0.35‰ 0.95‰), they concentrations Zn/Fe ratios, both which negatively correlated MgO contents. These features point formation via metasomatic overprinting through addition secondary clinopyroxenes crystallized infiltrating ultramafic melts. Thus, bear imprint subducted carbonate-bearing crust. Our study shows distinctively high-?66Zn signatures can be retained in deeply may contribute mantle sources intraplate alkali basalts elevated Zn/Fe. Therefore, isotopes provide a viable means trace carbonate recycling mantle.

Boron isotope fractionation in magma via crustal carbonate dissolution
Carbon dioxide released by arc volcanoes is widely considered to originate from the mantle and from subducted sediments. Fluids released from upper arc carbonates, however, have recently been proposed to help modulate arc CO2 fluxes. Here we use boron as a tracer, which substitutes for carbon in limestone, to further investigate crustal carbonate degassing in volcanic arcs. We performed laborat...

Oceanic molybdenum isotope fractionation: Diagenesis and hydrothermal ridgeâ•’flank alteration
[1] Isotopic analyses of dissolved molybdenum are presented for sediment pore waters from a reducing sedimentary basin and for fluids from a low-temperature ridge flank hydrothermal system. dMo in these fluids range from 0.8 to 3.5% (relative to a laboratory standard), demonstrating that marine sedimentary reactions significantly fractionate Mo isotopes. Within the upper 3 cm of sediment, manga...
متن کاملSpectral Evidence for a Brucite-carbonate Alteration Assemblage on Ceres
Introduction: The dwarf planet Ceres is the largest object in the asteroid belt and is a primary target of NASA’s Dawn mission [1]. Recent modeling has shown that Ceres is likely differentiated and consists of a thin silicate+ice crust underlain by a thicker water ice mantle [2,3]. The presence of hydrated phases on Ceres, as inferred from the 3 μm absorption feature present in surface reflecta...
