A Catchment Conflation Tool for Comparing DEM Derived River Networks

چکیده

This paper describes a tool for identifying topologically matched locations in vector stream networks extracted from different DEMs of the same catchment. The tool has applications in providing quantitative comparisons of stream network position and topological differences as well as providing a scalable and robust method for conflating stream networks to enable transfer of attribute information between networks. The tool is demonstrated using a case study in the upper Murrumbidgee River in Australia showing how matching stream links are identified and topological differences identified.

Graphical user interface for rapid set-up of SHETRAN physically-based river catchment model

The SHETRAN physically-based distributed rainfall-runoff modelling system gives detailed simulations in time and space of water flow and sediment and solute transport in river catchments. It is therefore a powerful tool for studying hydrological and environmental impacts associated with land-use and climate change. A Graphical User Interface (GUI) has been developed that allows a catchment data...

Medial Axis Approximation of River Networks for Catchment Area Delineation

The hydrological catchment areas are commonly extracted from digital elevation models (DEMs). The shortcoming is that computations for large areas are very time consuming and even may be impractical. Furthermore, the DEM may be inaccessible or in a poor quality. This chapter presents an algorithm to approximate the medial axis of river networks, which leads to catchment area delineation. We pro...

Investigating the Influence of Different DEMs on GIS-Based Cost Distance Modeling for Site Catchment Analysis of Prehistoric Sites in Andalusia

The overall objective of this work is to apply GIS-based cost distance modeling (CDM) to site catchment modeling and analysis of prehistoric (Solutrean) sites in Andalusia. The implementation of a GIS-method for slope-based CDM was explained in detail, so that it can be replicated easily in future studies. Additional cost components, vegetation and stream networks, were included in the method. ...

Comparison Density and Fractal Dimension of Drainage Networks in Different Scales and Precision Different (Case Study: Ilam Watersheds)

Every phenomena in the nature, despite the complexity of the subject, has certain rules and regulations. River pattern and behavior as one of the most complex natural phenomena to this is not an exception. Depending on geomorphologic, climatic, topographic and erosive conditions, the waterways exhibit different patterns and behaviors. One of the parameters which can be achieved using the comple...

Comparative assessment of three approaches for deriving stream power plots along long profiles in the upper Hunter River catchment, New South Wales, Australia

The downstream distribution of stream power is derived and analysed for 11 different streams in the upper Hunter River catchment, Australia. Stream long profiles were produced in a GIS environment using DEM data and catchment area–discharge analysis. These profiles were analysed using three approaches, namely long profile smoothing, curve fitting and a theoretical model. The methodology for der...
