Tree Drawings Revisited
نویسنده
چکیده
We make progress on a number of open problems concerning the area requirement for drawing trees on a grid. We prove that 1. every tree of size n (with arbitrarily large degree) has a straight-line drawing with area n2 √ log logn log log , improving the longstanding O(n log n) bound; 2. every tree of size n (with arbitrarily large degree) has a straight-line upward drawing with area n √ log n(log log n), improving the longstanding O(n log n) bound; 3. every binary tree of size n has a straight-line orthogonal drawing with area n2 ∗ , improving the previous O(n log log n) bound by Shin, Kim, and Chwa (1996) and Chan, Goodrich, Kosaraju, and Tamassia (1996); 4. every binary tree of size n has a straight-line order-preserving drawing with area n2 ∗ , improving the previous O(n log log n) bound by Garg and Rusu (2003); 5. every binary tree of size n has a straight-line orthogonal order-preserving drawing with area n2 √ , improving the O(n) previous bound by Frati (2007).

Fixed Parameter Algorithms for one-sided crossing minimization Revisited
We exhibit a small problem kernel for the problem onesided crossing minimization which plays an important role in graph drawing algorithms based on the Sugiyama layering approach. Moreover, we improve on the search tree algorithm developed in [5] and derive an O(1.4656k + kn) algorithm for this problem, where k upperbounds the number of tolerated crossings of straight lines involved in the draw...
متن کاملA Simple Algorithm for Constructing Perfect Monolinear Sona Tree Drawings, and its Application to Visual Art Education
The traditional sona drawing art of Angola is compared from the structural point of view to similar geometric arts found in other parts of the world. A simple algorithm is proposed for constructing a sub-class of sona drawings, called perfect monolinear sona drawings, on a given set of points in the plane, that exhibit the topological structure of a tree. The application of the tree sona drawin...
متن کاملWell-Nested Drawings as Models of Syntactic Structure
This paper investigates drawings (totally ordered forests) as models of syntactic structure. It offers a new model-based perspective on lexicalised Tree Adjoining Grammar by characterising a class of drawings structurally equivalent to tag derivations. The drawings in this class are distinguished by a restricted form of non-projectivity (gap degree at most one) and the absence of interleaving s...
متن کاملEfficient Spatial Data Structure for Multiversion Management of Engineering Drawings
In the engineering database system, multiple versions of a design including engineering drawings should be managed efficiently. The paper proposes an extended spatial data structure for efficient management of multiversion engineering drawings. The R-tree is adapted as a basic data structure. The efficient mechanism to manage the difference between drawings is introduced to the R-tree to elimin...
متن کاملOptimum-width upward order-preserving poly-line drawings of trees
An upward drawing of a tree is a drawing such that no parents are below their children. It is order-preserving if the edges to children appear in prescribed order around each vertex. Chan showed that any tree has an upward order-preserving drawing with width O(logn). In this paper, we consider upward order-preserving drawings where edges are allowed to have bends. We present a linear-time algor...
