چکیده

new family home. He accidentally leant over the bucket and inhaled the fumes produced by the solution. Five minutes after the inhalation, he developed persistent pleuritic, right-sided chest pain and breathlessness. There was no personal or family history of pulmonary disease, and he had never smoked. Physical abnormalities were confined to the chest. He had a respiratory rate of 30 a minute and signs consistent with a right-sided pneumothorax. Radiology confirmed a 40% pneumothorax with some mediastinal shift (Fig. 1). He was treated with an underwater-seal chest drain. The right lung was fully expanded within 48 h and the drain was removed the following day. He has remained well since his discharge from hospital 3 months ago.

Morbidity and Mortality of Caustic Ingestion in Rural Children: Experience in a New Cardiothoracic Surgery Unit in Nigeria

Background. Inspite of the fact that accidental caustic ingestion is an entirely easily preventable problem, it has however persisted in rural Nigerian communities because the commonly implicated agent which is caustic soda (sodium hydroxide, NaOH) is sold in open markets without restrictive legislations. Prediction of Red Mud Bound-Soda Losses in Bayer Process Using Neural Networks

In the Bayer process, the reaction of silica in bauxite with caustic soda causes the loss of great amount of NaOH. In this research, the bound-soda losses in Bayer process solid residue (red mud) are predicted using intelligent techniques. This method, based on the application of regression and artificial neural networks (AAN), has been used to predict red mud bound-soda losses in Iran Alumina C...
