Role of Symmetry in Raman Spectroscopy of Unconventional Superconductors

چکیده

The role of symmetry of the inelastic light scattering amplitude, the superconducting energy gap, and the underlying Fermi surface manifold on the Raman spectra of unconventional superconductors is discussed in detail. Particular emphasis is placed on both single and bi-layer superconductors. It is found that the B1g channel may be the most sensitive to doping due to the role of the Van Hove singularity. Lastly the effect of both disorder and spin fluctuations is considered. The theory imposes strong constraints on both the magnitude and symmetry of the energy gap for the bi-layer cuprates, indicating that a nearly identical energy gap of dx2−y2 symmetry provides a best fit to the data.

To understand the mechanism of superconductivity in unconventional super onductors is one of the big challenges in the field of superconductivity. Based on the BCS theory, there is a direct relation between the pairing mechanism and the symmetry of the order parameter. Therefore, identification of the structure of the superconducting gap or the order parameter provides key information on the pa...

Screening of the Raman response in multiband superconductors: Application to iron pnictides

We performed model calculations of Raman responses for multiband two-dimensional superconductors. The multiband effects of screening in the A1g symmetry channel were investigated analytically and numerically for a band-structure model mimicking angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy data on iron-pnictide materials. An acceptable agreement between our model calculations and recent experimenta...

Theory of Electronic Raman Scattering in Disordered d−wave Superconductors

A theory for the effect of impurity scattering on electronic Raman scattering in unconventional superconductors is presented. The impurity dependence of the the spectra can be used to to distinguish between conventional (anisotropic s−wave) or unconventional (d-wave) energy gaps, and excellent agreement with the data on three cuprate superconductors is shown for dx2−y2 pairing. The full frequen...

Fluctuating Charge Order: A Universal Phenomenon in Unconventional Superconductivity?

Unconventional superconductors are characterized by various competing ordering phenomena in the normal state, such as antiferromagnetism, charge order, orbital order or nematicity. According to a widespread view, antiferromagnetic fluctuations are the dominant ordering phenomenon in cuprates and Fe based superconductors and are responsible for electron pairing. In contrast, charge order is beli...
