Primary Charge Separation in Photosynthetic Bacterial Reaction Centers and Femtosecond Solvation Dynamics

چکیده
single pass Bethune type cell using LDS-867 to an energy of about 4 μJ. The second continuum was used as the probe pulse. The polarization of the pump and probe pulses were generally set at the magic angle, although experiments were also performed with parallel and perpendicular polarizations. The instrument response function, determined by monitoring the bleaching of the dye IR-143, was typically 300 fs. Typically 10-15% of the reaction centers were excited by the pump pulse.

A phenomenological model of dynamical arrest of electron transfer in solvents in the glass-transition region.
A phenomenological model of electron transfer reactions in solvents undergoing glass transition is discussed. The reaction constant cuts off slow polarization modes from the spectrum of nuclear thermal motions active on the observation time scale. The arrest of nuclear solvation in turn affects the reaction activation barrier making it dependent on the rate. The resultant rate constant is sough...
متن کاملNew and unexpected routes for ultrafast electron transfer in photosynthetic reaction centers.
In photosynthetic reaction centers, the excitation with light leads to the formation of a charge separated state across the photosynthetic membrane. For the reaction center of purple non-sulphur bacteria, it was previously generally assumed that this primary charge separation could only start with the excitation of the so-called special pair of bacteriochlorophyll molecules located in the heart...

Despite the apparent similarity between the plant Photosystem II reaction center (RC) and its purple bacterial counterpart, we show in this work that the mechanism of charge separation is very different for the two photosynthetic RCs. By using femtosecond visible-pump-mid-infrared probe spectroscopy in the region of the chlorophyll ester and keto modes, between 1,775 and 1,585 cm(-1), with 150-...
متن کاملTrapping the P+B(L)- initial intermediate state of charge separation in photosynthetic reaction centers from Rhodobacter capsulatus.
The short-lived (<1 ps) initial intermediate state P(+)B(L)(-) in the photoinduced charge separation process of the bacterial photosynthetic reaction center has been trapped in two D(LL)-based Rhodobacter capsulatus mutants that have Tyr at position M208 and lack the bacteriopheophytin electron acceptor H(L). Transient state P(+)B(L)(-) is characterized by a 1017 nm bacteriochlorophyll anion ab...
