Histogram Based Segmentation Using Wasserstein Distances
نویسندگان
چکیده
We developed variational models for image segmentation that incorporate histogram information into level set based curve evolution techniques. The novelty is in the use of Wasserstein mass transfer metrics in order to compare histograms; we found that this improves the results significantly over previous Left: Segmentation based on average intensities via ChanVese model. Right: Proposed model based on neighborhood histograms metrics used in this capacity. The advantages of our approach become particularly pronounced when the histograms of different objects in the image are concentrated in spikes .

Dynamic Clustering of Histogram Data Based on Adaptive Squared Wasserstein Distances
This paper deals with clustering methods based on adaptive distances for histogram data using a dynamic clustering algorithm. Histogram data describes individuals in terms of empirical distributions. These kind of data can be considered as complex descriptions of phenomena observed on complex objects: images, groups of individuals, spatial or temporal variant data, results of queries, environme...
متن کاملTexture Segmentation via Non-local Non-parametric Active Contours
This article introduces a novel active contour model that makes use of non-parametric estimators over patches for the segmentation of textured images. It is based on an energy that enforces the homogeneity of these statistics. This smoothness is measured using Wasserstein distances among discretized probability distributions that can handle features in arbitrary dimension. It is thus usable for...
متن کاملGeodesic Distance Histogram Feature for Video Segmentation
This paper proposes a geodesic-distance-based feature that encodes global information for improved video segmentation algorithms. The feature is a joint histogram of intensity and geodesic distances, where the geodesic distances are computed as the shortest paths between superpixels via their boundaries. We also incorporate adaptive voting weights and spatial pyramid configurations to include s...
متن کاملA parameterless scale-space approach to find meaningful modes in histograms - Application to image and spectrum segmentation
Despite a huge literature on this topic, image segmentation remains a difficult problem in the sense there does not exist a general method which works in all cases. One reason is in that the expected segmentation generally depends on the final application goal. Generally researchers focus on the development of specific algorithms according to the type of images they are processing and their fin...
متن کاملStatistical Gaussian Model of Image Regions in Stochastic Watershed Segmentation
Stochastic watershed is an image segmentation technique based on mathematical morphology which produces a probability density function of image contours. Estimated probabilities depend mainly on local distances between pixels. This paper introduces a variant of stochastic watershed where the probabilities of contours are computed from a gaussian model of image regions. In this framework, the ba...
