An Atlas of Plant Structure
نویسنده
چکیده
This atlas contains 147 bright-field photomicrographs that illustrate the anatomy of bacteria, algae, fungi, lichens, mosses, liverworts, ferns, conifers, and flowering plants. With each micrograph, there is an interpretive line drawing which is useful since many of the photographs are of fair quality only. The book is representative of thinking in the field of plant anatomy 50 years ago. There is no text, no information on specimen preparation or photography, and the captions provide minimal information. The contrast between this atlas and Plant Structure and Development by T. P. O'Brien and M. E. McCully, Macmillan, 1969, is striking. The latter book contains 155 illustrations of the structure of flowering plants, ranging from fine structure of cell organelles to external morphology of organs. There is an informative text, briefly written, and numerous literature citations. These authors use excellent macrophotography, bright-field, phase contrast, polarization, and Nomarski optics and electron microscopy to illustrate structure. These are all optical methods that are now used routinely to study plant structure, and any book that illustrates structure should show the results they yield. O'Brien and McCully also discuss methods of specimen preparation and photography and thus provide information that aids the observer to interpret their photographs. This book is the best atlas of plant structure now available.

Design and Simulation of a Highly Efficient InGaN/Si Double-Junction Solar Cell
A solar cell is an electronic device which not only harvests photovoltaic effect but also transforms light energy into electricity. In photovoltaic phenomenon, a P-N junction is created to form an empty region. The presented paper aims at proposing a new highly efficient InGaN/Si double-junction solar cell structure. This cell is designed to be used in a real environmental situation, so only s...
متن کاملDevelopment of an Anaglyph Anatomical Atlas of Rabbit as a New Generation of Printable 3D Anatomical Atlases
Introduction: To improve anatomical atlases, we tried to create a printable 3D atlas of rabbit's anatomy based on the Anaglyph. Methods: In this study, twenty white rabbits euthanized and dissected. All 3D images were reconstructed by means of "stereo photo maker (SPM®)" software. Results: By this atlas, users can easily understand nomenclature, the topography and, certainly, the transpo...
متن کاملA Novel SOI MESFET by Implanted N Layer (INL-SOI) for High Performance Applications
This paper introduces a novel silicon-on-insulator (SOI) metal–semiconductor field-effect transistor (MESFET) with an implanted N layer (INL-SOI MESFET) to improve the DC and radio frequency characteristics. The DC and radio frequency characteristics of the proposed structure are analyzed by the 2-D ATLAS simulator and compared with a conventional SOI MESFET (C-SOI MESFET). The simulated result...

متن کاملStructural dynamics in northern Atlas of Tunisian, Jendouba area: insights from geology and gravity data
This paper presents a new interpretation of the geometry of Triassic alignment of J. Sidi Mahdi –J. Zitoun in Medjerda Valley Plain (Northern Tunisia) based on detailed analysis of gravity and seismic reflection data. The main results of gravity analysis do not show a distinguish gravity anomaly over Triassic evaporites bodies. The positive gravity anomaly seems to be related to the entire stru...
