An appraisal of the double indicator-dilution method for the estimation of mitral regurgitation in human subjects.

چکیده
T HE shape of an indicator-dilution curve is determined by at least 4 variables: cardiac output, the volume between the injection site and the sampling site, the presence of a left-to-right intracardiac shunt, and the presence of valvular regurgitation.1-3 In the absence of an intracardiac shunt and valvular regurgitation, one can predict the downslope of the arterial dilution curve, using the calculated values of cardiac output and "central blood volume. " Several investigators have tried to estimate the amount of regurgitation in man by measuring the deviation of the observed downslope from the predicted downslope.4-7 Lange and Hechts have presented evidence suggesting that an estimate of mitral regurgitation may be obtained by comparing the dilution curves recorded simultaneously from the pulmonary artery and the femoral artery. There is evidence from studies on dogs with simulated valvular regurgitation that supports the validity of this technic.9' 10 This is a report of the results of the doubledilution-curve technic in the estimation of mitral regurgitation in 50 patients.

Possible Effect of CABG on Moderate Mitral Regurgitation
Introduction: Mitral valve insufficiency in adults is often a complication of ischemic heart disease. Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) is performed as a strategy for the treatment of coronary artery disease. The aim of this study was to evaluate mitral regurgitation (MR) before and after CABG. Materials and Methods: This Experimental study was condu...
متن کاملCalculation of Cardiac Output from Indicator-dilution Curves in the Presence of Mitral Regurgitation.
M EIER and Zierlerl have lucidly presented the theory underlying the application of indicator dilution of the measurement of flow in the vascular bed. This theory is not violated by the presence of valve incompetence provided that indicator particles that recirculate and reenter the vascular system can be excluded from the primary indicator concentration-time curve. Valve incompetence results i...
متن کاملMeasurement of mitral regurgitation by indicator-dilution techniques.
CONSIDERABLE progress has been made in recent years in the quantitative estimation of certain cardiovalvular abnormalities by cardiac catheterization.' The quantitative determination of mitral regurgitation has not yet reached a similar status despite a substantial amount of experimental effort. This article will give theoretical bases for determination of mitral regurgitation by indicator-dilu...
متن کاملDetection and assessment of mitral regurgitation by left atrial indicator-dilution curves.
IX THE CONTINUING search for an accurate method of assessing mitral regurgitation, an indicator has been injected into the left ventricle, and the subsequent dilution curves have been recorded from both the left atrium and a peripheral artery. ' With increasing mitral regurgitation, an increasing concentration of early appearing dye can be detected in the left atrium, when normally there is lit...
