چکیده

The study aimed to investigate the effect of speed and incline on EMG activity in the brachiocephalicus muscle and the long and lateral heads of the triceps brachii muscle. Six horses were exercised on a treadmill at walk (1.7m s), trot (4.0m s) and right lead canter (7.2m s) on a 0 and 8% incline. Kinematics (120Hz) and electromyography (EMG) (2000Hz) data were collected simultaneously from the left forelimb of each horse. Significant differences in relation to velocity and incline were identified using two-way ANOVA and post hoc Student–Newman–Keuls tests (P , 0.05). The degree of association between timing of peak EMG intensity and the timing of maximum protraction/retraction angles was assessed using ANCOVA. Increases in velocity led to an increase in stride length and reduction in stride duration. Exercise on the incline increased stance duration and decreased swing duration, while limb protraction/retraction increased. The time of peak EMG activity in the brachiocephalicus was highly related to time of maximum limb retraction (r 2 1⁄4 0.84). The time of peak EMG activity in the long head of the triceps brachii was highly associated with time of maximum limb protraction (r 2 1⁄4 0.87). Increases in velocity and incline both caused an increase in the intensity of the EMG signal from each muscle. Duration of EMG activity was prolonged in the long head of the triceps brachii muscle and in the brachiocephalicus muscle as velocity increased. Treadmill speed and slope therefore both alter the workload placed on forelimb muscles.

The Effects of Inclination (Up and Down) of the Treadmill on the Electromyogram Activities of the Forelimb and Hind limb Muscles at a Walk and a Trot in Thoroughbred Horses

It is important to know the effects of the inclination of a slope on the activity of each muscle, because training by running on a sloped track is commonly used for Thoroughbred racehorses. The effects of incline (from -6 to +6%) on the forelimbs and hind limbs during walking and trotting on a treadmill were evaluated by an integrated electromyogram (iEMG). The muscle activities in the forelimb...

The Effects of Increasing Running Speed on Three-Dimensional Peak Angle of the Lower Limb Joints in Stance Phase

Objective: Attention can be paid to the biomechanical characteristics of running since the speed of running varies. The aim of the present study was to investigate the effects of increasing running speed on the three-dimensional kinematics of the lower limb’ joints in the stance phase. Methods: The research was quasi-experimental. 27 volunteer subjects ran on a treadmill and the kinematic and ...

Kinematic and EMG determinants in quadrupedal locomotion of a non-human primate (Rhesus).

We hypothesized that the activation patterns of flexor and extensor muscles and the resulting kinematics of the forelimbs and hindlimbs during locomotion in the Rhesus would have unique characteristics relative to other quadrupedal mammals. Adaptations of limb movements and in motor pool recruitment patterns in accommodating a range of treadmill speeds similar to other terrestrial animals in bo...

مقایسه کینماتیک اندام تحتانی هنگام راه رفتن به سمت جلو و عقب بر شیب های مختلف

Purpose: Forward Walking (FW) and Backward Walking (BW) on different gradients of the treadmill is a common exercise for lower extremity rehabilitation. However, limited studies are found about the three-dimensional analysis of lower extremity and status of the knee joint during FW and BW on different gradients. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the lower extremity joints kinematics du...

Effect of different walking speed on the gait kinematics of individuals with knee varus

The purpose of current study was to investigate the spatio-temporal gait parameters and knee varus angle during walking at different speeds in young with knee varus. 18 subjects with varus deformity classified at grade 3 of bowleg and 17 healthy subjects, volunteered to participate in this study. The following variables include stance, swing, double support and cycle time, cadence, stride le...
