Recognition and Modeling of Architectural Objects from Architectural CAD Drawings

Recently in the eld of building CAD, research and development in CAD and data sharing among CAD tools has introduced object-oriented technology. This technology has brought object-oriented CAD tools that allow users to designing buildings by means of architectural objects and the standard data speci cation IFC (Industry Foundation Classes), which is involved in the architectural CALS (Commerce at Light Speed). At present, however, drafting CAD tools are still very popular. A DXF(Drawing eXchange Format) le is one of the formats for interchanging data between di erent CAD tools. The purpose of our research is to recognize and model architectural objects such as columns and walls automatically from the DXF le of an architectural CAD drawing. The system we propose consists of recognition knowledge descriptions and a reasoning engine. The former describes knowledge of the target drawing and the building which the drawing expresses. The latter recognizes architectural objects by refering to the knowledge descriptions and does not depend on the CAD drawings.
