Content Based Image Retrieval in Multimedia Databases

In today's multimedia age, images are becoming more and more common in various fields. Database is an area that has found extensive use of images in past few years. Although much advancement has been made in the field of multimedia databases yet there is an urgent need of an integrated framework for creating, managing and retrieving multimedia data. With the increased usage of image data, the need to search and retrieve images efficiently and accurately from a large image database or a cluster of image databases has increased. This paper presents a generic model for content-based retrieval (CBR) of image data. Various image search engines like Google currently use keyword-based search, which is neither efficient nor effective. The CBR method is more efficient than the traditional keyword search and is employed by very few engines like Alta Vista. The CBR method gives more relevant results and is time efficient also.
