Predicted Dark Energy Constraints using 3D Weak Lensing
نویسنده
چکیده
I hereby present two different methods that will allow weak lensing shape measurements of galaxies combined with redshift information – 3D weak lensing – to constrain the dark energy equation of state. The two methods are the geometric ratio test (Taylor et al. 2007) and a shear harmonic test (Heavens et al. 2006). The results presented here use a Fisher matrix approach for each method to place lower limits on the expected cosmological parameter constraints from future weak lensing surveys combined with a predicted Planck CMB prior, fully marginalizing over all cosmological parameters and allowing for spatial curvature. The parameter estimation technique allows for an optimisation of future experiments so that the dark energy parameter constraints, given a specific amount of time on a particular instrument, can be minimised.

Measuring dark energy properties with 3D cosmic shear
We present parameter estimation forecasts for present and future 3D cosmic shear surveys. We demonstrate in particular that, in conjunction with results from cosmic microwave background (CMB) experiments, the properties of dark energy can be estimated with very high precision with large-scale, fully 3D weak lensing surveys. In particular, a 5-band, 10,000 square degree ground-based survey of ga...
متن کاملConstraints on early dark energy from CMB lensing and weak lensing tomography
Dark energy can be studied by its influence on the expansion of the Universe as well as on the growth history of the large-scale structure. In this paper, we follow the growth of the cosmic density field in early dark energy cosmologies by combining observations of the primary CMB temperature and polarisation power spectra at high redshift, of the CMB lensing deflection field at intermediate re...
متن کاملConstraining dark energy from the abundance of weak gravitational lenses
We examine the prospect of using the observed abundance of weak gravitational lenses to constrain the equation-of-state parameter w = p/ρ of the dark energy. Dark energy modifies the distance-redshift relation, the amplitude of the matter power spectrum, and the rate of structure growth. As a result, it affects the efficiency with which dark-matter concentrations produce detectable weak-lensing...
متن کاملWeak Lensing from Space Iii: Cosmological Parameters
Weak gravitational lensing provides a unique method to directly map the dark matter in the universe and measure cosmological parameters. The current weak lensing surveys are limited by the atmospheric seeing from the ground and by the small field of view of existing space telescopes. These limitations can be circumvented using wide field observations from space, such as those afforded by the fu...
متن کاملBiased Dark Energy Constraints from Neglecting Reduced Shear in Weak Lensing Surveys
The weak gravitational lensing of distant galaxies by large-scale structure is expected to become a powerful probe of dark energy. By measuring the ellipticities of large numbers of background galaxies, the subtle gravitational distortion called “cosmic shear” can be measured and used to constrain dark energy parameters. The observed galaxy ellipticities, however, are induced not by shear but b...
