Internet of Things & M2M – A Perspective on Opportunities and Challenges

Modern infrastructure systems such as roadways, utility networks, telecommunications, retail, etc. are large scale complexly networked, socio-technical systems that are contributing largely to the quality of life in modern societies. The operation and control of existing infrastructures has several challenges. Technologies and business models gathering around Internet of Things (IoT) and Machine to Machine (M2M) Communications are hugely impacting future IT systems managing them. They impart considerable contributions towards improving the efficiency, high resolution management, safety & security, real-time risk monitoring, information services and overall user experience. Diverse architectures and standards that were vertical specific are getting unified under the vision of Internet of Things. In their keynote, Balamuralidhar P and Kedar Phansalkar will present a perspective on Internet of Things and M2M. They will be highlighting associated challenges, opportunities and experiences with a few use cases.
