Nonmonotonic Probabilistic Logics under Variable-Strength Inheritance with Overriding: Algorithms and Implementation in NMPROBLOG
نویسنده
چکیده
In previous work, I have introduced nonmonotonic probabilistic logics under variablestrength inheritance with overriding. They are formalisms for probabilistic reasoning from sets of strict logical, default logical, and default probabilistic sentences, which are parameterized through a value λ∈ [0, 1] that describes the strength of the inheritance of default probabilistic knowledge. In this paper, I continue this line of research. I give a precise picture of the complexity of deciding consistency of strength λ and of computing tight consequences of strength λ. I also present algorithms for these tasks, which are based on reductions to the standard problems of deciding satisfiability and of computing tight logical consequences in model-theoretic probabilistic logic. Finally, I describe the system NMPROBLOG, which includes a prototype implementation of these algorithms. 1Dipartimento di Informatica e Sistemistica, Università di Roma “La Sapienza”, Via Salaria 113, I-00198 Rome, Italy; e-mail: [email protected]. Probabilistic Lexicographic Entailment under Variable-Strength Inheritance with Overriding
In previous work, I have presented approaches to nonmonotonic probabilistic reasoning, which is a probabilistic generalization of default reasoning from conditional knowledge bases. In this paper, I continue this exciting line of research. I present a new probabilistic generalization of Lehmann’s lexicographic entailment, called -entailment, which is parameterized through a value that describes...
متن کاملProbabilistic Logic Programming under Inheritance with Overriding
We present probabilistic logic programming un der inheritance with overriding. This approach is based on new notions of entailment for reasoning with conditional constraints, which are obtained from the classical notion of logical entailment by adding inheritance with overriding. This is done by using recent approaches to probabilistic de fault reasoning with conditional constraints. We analy...
متن کاملEL with Default Attributes and Overriding
Biomedical ontologies and semantic web policy languages based on description logics (DLs) provide fresh motivations for extending DLs with nonmonotonic inferences—a topic that has attracted a significant amount of attention along the years. Despite this, nonmonotonic inferences are not yet supported by the existing DL engines. One reason is the high computational complexity of the existing deci...
متن کاملNonmonotonic probabilistic reasoning under variable-strength inheritance with overriding
We present new probabilistic generalizations of Pearl’s entailment in System [50, 32] and Lehmann’s lexicographic entailment [39], called and -entailment, which are parameterized through a value that describes the strength of the inheritance of purely probabilistic knowledge. In the special cases of and , the notions of and -entailment coincide with the probabilistic notions of and -entailment ...
متن کاملDefaults in Description Logics: So Simple, So Difficult
Frame systems—the ancestors of Description Logics—supported a form of defeasible inheritance and overriding. Such nonmonotonic features disappeared from implementations after the logical reconstruction of frame systems, although applications provide interesting use cases for nonmonotonic inferences. This talk gives an overview of the nonmonotonic DLs introduced so far, and illustrates the many ...
