چکیده

In this paper an application is described, where image registration to a model is used in conjunction with registration of acoustic (3-D) data to the same model to perform calibration of an optical/acoustic rig. This allows to register the video image with the depth map acquired by the acoustic device, thereby obtaining a single multisensorial image. Experimental results on both synthetic and real images are reported.

Design and Application of a Photoacoustic Sensor for Monitoring the Laser Generated Stress Waves in Optical Fiber

Measurement of stress transients generated by a 400ns pulsed HF laser in an infrared fluoride glass fiber has been made using fast time – response piezoelectric film transducer. Acoustic signals up to 12 mV with frequencies ranging in megahertz generated by 21 mJ laser pulse when passed through the fiber axis in the linear region. It is shown that useful information such as onset of non - linea...

An Optical Measurement System to Measure Velocity and Provide Shock Wave Pressure Diagrams

This paper introduces an optical measurement system for shock wave characteristics. The system works by mountinga metal plate attached to spring mounts against the shock wavefront. This set is sealed and can plot the shock wave pressure diagram by measuring plate's displacement, radiation and changing the reflection of light during shock wave conflict, and converting these optical data to volta...

INTEGRATION OF OPTICAL AND ACOUSTIC SENSORS FOR 3D UNDERwATER SCENE RECONSTRUCTION

Combination of optical and acoustic sensors to overcome the shortcomings presented by optical systems in underwater 3D acquisition is an emerging field of research. In this work, an opti-acoustic system composed by a single camera and a multibeam sonar is proposed, providing a simulation environment to validate its potential use in 3D reconstruction. Since extrinsic calibration is a prerequisit...

Fiber Optic Sensor for Acoustic Detection of Partial Discharges in Oil-Paper Insulated Electrical Systems

A fiber optic interferometric sensor with an intrinsic transducer along a length of the fiber is presented for ultrasound measurements of the acoustic emission from partial discharges inside oil-filled power apparatus. The sensor is designed for high sensitivity measurements in a harsh electromagnetic field environment, with wide temperature changes and immersion in oil. It allows enough sensit...

OPTO-ACOUSTIC DATA FUSION FOR SUPPORTING THE GUIDANCE OF REMOTELY OPERATED UNDERWATER VEHICLES (ROVs)

Remotely Operated underwater Vehicles (ROVs) play an important role in a number of operations conducted in shallow and deep water (e.g.: exploration, survey, intervention, etc.), in several application fields like marine science, offshore construction, and underwater archeology. ROVs are usually equipped with different imaging devices, both optical and acoustic. Optical sensors are able to gene...
