چکیده

In this paper, we present a Fingerprint Linear Estimation Routine (FLiER) to identify topology changes in power networks using readings from sparsely-deployed phasor measurement units (PMUs). When a power line, load, or generator trips in a network, or when a substation is reconfigured, the event leaves a unique “voltage fingerprint” of bus voltage changes that we can identify using only the portion of the network directly observed by the PMUs. The naive brute-force approach to identify a failed line from such voltage fingerprints, though simple and accurate, is slow. We derive an approximate algorithm based on a local linearization and a novel filtering approach that is faster and only slightly less accurate. We present experimental results using the IEEE 57-bus, IEEE 118-bus, and Polish 19992000 winter peak networks.

Topology Identification for Dynamic Equivalent Models of Large Power Systems using `1/`2 Optimization

In this paper we propose two algorithms to identify the equivalent topology of reduced-order models of power systems using measurements of phase angles and frequencies available from Phasor Measurement Units (PMUs). We first show that the topology identification problem can be posed as a parameter estimation problem. Thereafter, we extract the slow oscillatory component of the PMU measurements ...

Voice-based Age and Gender Recognition using Training Generative Sparse Model

Abstract: Gender recognition and age detection are important problems in telephone speech processing to investigate the identity of an individual using voice characteristics. In this paper a new gender and age recognition system is introduced based on generative incoherent models learned using sparse non-negative matrix factorization and atom correction post-processing method. Similar to genera...

Characterizing dynamic behavior of PMUs using step signals

Evaluating performance of PMUs to verify the consistency of phasor measurements is of a great importance since it promotes the interoperability among PMUs from different manufacturers. This paper presents a set of test methodology and tools for evaluating the dynamic performance of PMUs when exposed to a step change of input signals. A phasor estimation scheme is proposed to achieve high accura...

The Analysis of Sparse Representations for the Sequence of Images of Videos

Sparse representation has become very popular in fields of signal processing, image processing computer vision and pattern recognition. Sparse representation also has good reputation in both theoretical and practical applications. Images can be sparsely coded by structural primitives and recently the sparse coding or sparse representation has been widely used to resolve the problems in image re...

Good Error-Correcting Codes Based On Very Sparse Matrices - Information Theory, IEEE Transactions on

We study two families of error-correcting codes defined in terms of very sparse matrices. “MN” (MacKay–Neal) codes are recently invented, and “Gallager codes” were first investigated in 1962, but appear to have been largely forgotten, in spite of their excellent properties. The decoding of both codes can be tackled with a practical sum-product algorithm. We prove that these codes are “very good...
