چکیده

Numerical simulations of laser wakefield particle accelerators play a key role in the understanding of the complex acceleration process and in the design of expensive experimental facilities. As the size and complexity of simulation output grows, an increasingly acute challenge is the practical need for computational techniques that aid in scientific knowledge discovery. To that end, we present a set of data-understanding algorithms that work in concert in a pipeline fashion to automatically locate and analyze high energy particle bunches undergoing acceleration in very large simulation datasets. These techniques work cooperatively by first identifying features of interest in individual timesteps, then integrating features across timesteps, and based on the information derived perform analysis of temporally dynamic features. This combination of techniques supports accurate detection of particle beams enabling a deeper level of scientific understanding of physical phenomena than has been possible before. By combining efficient data analysis algorithms and state-of-the-art data management we enable high-performance analysis of extremely large particle datasets in 3D. We demonstrate the usefulness of our methods for a variety of 2D and 3D datasets and discuss the performance of our analysis pipeline. Rübel et al. Study of Laser Wakefield Acceleration by using Particle-in-cell Simulation

Optimization and control of electron beams is a major issue in laser wakefield accelerators. Based on two-dimensional particle-in-cell simulations, we propose a way to control the beam quality in laser wakefield acceleration using proper optimization of laser pulse length. The laser pulse with varying pulse duration has been considered that fulfils the resonance condition ) c ( p L    of pla...

Detailed dynamics of electron beams self-trapped and accelerated in a self-modulated laser wakefield

The electron beam generated in a self-modulated laser-wakefield accelerator is characterized in detail. A transverse normalized emittance of 0.06 p mm mrad, the lowest ever for an electron injector, was measured for 2 MeV electrons. The electron beam was observed to have a multicomponent beam profile and energy distribution. The latter also undergoes discrete transitions as the laser power or p...

LOW ENERGY SPREAD 100 MeV-1 GeV ELECTRON BUNCHES FROM LASER WAKEFIELD ACCELERATION AT LOASIS*

Experiments at the LOASIS laboratory of LBNL recently demonstrated production of 100 MeV electron beams with low energy spread and low divergence from laser wakefield acceleration. The radiation pressure of a 10 TW laser pulse guided over 10 diffraction ranges by a plasma density channel was used to drive an intense plasma wave (wakefield), producing acceleration gradients on the order of 100 G...

Self and Ionization-injection in Lfwa for Near-term Lasers∗

In plasma based acceleration (PBA), the methods of injecting high quality electron bunches into the accelerating wakefield is of utmost importance for various applications, including next generation light sources and high energy colliders. Numerous simulations are being conducted in order to study various methods of injection and to optimize the beam parameters. Particle-In-Cell simulations usi...

Simulation of Accelerated Electron Spectra in Laser Wakefield Accelerators*

The generation of high quality electron beams in a laser wakefield accelerator (LWFA) is generally thought to require phased injection of an ultrashort electron bunch. However, simulations have shown that longer bunch, unphased injection may also produce high quality, short electron bunches if the injection energy is properly chosen. The process involves pruning of electrons that move into defo...
