The stationary distribution is uniform: πi = 1/(kn) for i ∈ V . The Markov chain is connected and therefore irreducible, moreover since it has self loops and is undirected it is also aperiodic. Hence, it converges to π. To apply the flow method, we have to route one unit of flow, for each pair (u, v) of vertices. We do this as follows: if u and v are connected via an edge e, then we route the unit corresponding to (u, v) directly over e. Otherwise, we distribute the flow over all shortes paths from u to v. Now we want to bound the amount of flow on an edge e = {u, v}, with u ∈ Vi and v ∈ Vi+1 for 1 ≤ i < k. We get

In recent years, probabilistic analyses of algorithms have received increasing attention. Despite results on the average-case complexity and smoothed complexity of exact deterministic algorithms, little is known on the average-case behavior of randomized search heuristics (RSHs). In this paper, two simple RSHs are studied on a simple scheduling problem. While it turns out that in the worst case...
متن کاملApplication of Probabilistic Clustering Algorithms to Determine Mineralization Areas in Regional-Scale Exploration Studies
In this work, we aim to identify the mineralization areas for the next exploration phases. Thus, the probabilistic clustering algorithms due to the use of appropriate measures, the possibility of working with datasets with missing values, and the lack of trapping in local optimal are used to determine the multi-element geochemical anomalies. Four probabilistic clustering algorithms, namely PHC,...
متن کاملProbabilistic Methods in the Design and Analysis of Algorithms Dagstuhl Seminar
From 23.09.2007 to 28.09.2007, the Dagstuhl Seminar 07391 Probabilistic Methods in the Design and Analysis of Algorithms was held in the International Conference and Research Center (IBFI), Schloss Dagstuhl. The seminar brought together leading researchers in probabilistic methods to strengthen and foster collaborations among various areas of Theoretical Computer Science. The interaction betwee...
متن کاملProbabilistic Tools for the Analysis of Randomized Optimization Heuristics
This chapter collects several probabilistic tools that proved to be useful in the analysis of randomized search heuristics. This includes classic material like Markov, Chebyshev and Chernoff inequalities, but also lesser known topics like stochastic domination and coupling or Chernoff bounds for geometrically distributed random variables and for negatively correlated random variables. Almost al...
متن کاملProbabilistic reasoning in intelligent systems - networks of plausible inference
Pearl's "Probabilistic Reasoning in Intelligent Systems" is elegantly done seminal work on uncertainty, probabilistic reasoning and all things related inference. As the author says, "This book is a culmination of an investigation into the applicability of probabilistic methods to task requiring automated reasoning under uncertainty", it covers topics on all level i.e. basic ideas, technical and...
