چکیده
With the advent of the Internet, access to database servers from autonomous clients will become more and more popular. In this paper, we propose a monitoring service that could be o ered by such database servers, and present algorithms for its implementation. In contrast to published view maintenance algorithms, we do not assume that the server has access to the original materialization when computing di erential view changes to be noti ed. We also do not assume any database capabilities on the client side and therefore compute precisely the required di erentials rather than just an approximation, as is done by cache coherence techniques in homogeneous clientserver databases. The method has been implemented in ConceptBase, a meta data management system supporting an Internet-based client-server architecture, and tried out in some cooperative design applications.

Management of Updates in the Enhanced Client-Server DBMS
The Client{Server DBMS model has emerged as the main paradigm in database computing. The Enhanced Client{Server architecture takes advantage of all the available client resources including their disk managers. Clients can cache server data into their own disk units if data are part of their operational space. However, when updates occur at the server, some of the client data managers may need t...
متن کاملQuickDB - Yet Another Database Management System?
Although DBMS (Database Management Systems) are often hidden for a user, they are a part of many applications utilized in day-by-day life. In general, we can suppose two main types of DBMS: OLTP (On-Line Transaction Processing) and OLAP (On-Line Analytical Processing). We can also distinguish another classification related to the connection of a client and DBMS: client-server and embedded DBMS....
متن کاملTransaction Synchronization for XML Data in Client-Server Web Applications
Whenever database centered client-server web applications have to be used by multiple web clients on different platforms, then recently XML has been considered as an important data exchange format. If multiple web clients modify their XML copy of some server side database data, then writing this modifications back to the server side database requires transaction synchronization. We present a tr...
متن کاملWeb Based Nursing Management of a Cardiology Department
The system has been specifically developed to manage nursing operation of a multi ward cardiology department. Main characteristics of the system are: internet access technology; data integration in the Hospital Information System by using a specific middleware; local or remote DBMS enquired by SQL. The system is based on a "Client-Server" architecture referring to a centralized data base, insta...
متن کاملPerformance Comparison of Three Modern DBMS Architectures
The introduction of powerful workstations connected through LAN networks inspired new DBMS architectures which ooer high performance characteristics. In this paper, we examine three such software architecture conngurations, namely: Client-Server (CS), RAD-UNIFY 1 type of DBMS (RU) and Enhanced Client-Server (ECS). Their speciic functional components and design rationales are discussed. We use t...
