Stochastic Modeling of Traffic Processes

چکیده
Modern telecommunications networks are being designed to accomodate a heterogenous mix of traac classes ranging from traditional telephone calls to video and data services. Thus, traac models are of crucial importance to the engineering and performance analysis of telecommunications system, notably congestion and overload controls and capacity estimation. This chapter surveys teletraac models, addressing both theoretical and computational aspects. It rst surveys the main classes of teletraac models commonly used in teletraac modeling, and then proceeds to survey traac methods for computing statistics relevant to the engineering a teletraac network.

A Useful Family of Stochastic Processes for Modeling Shape Diffusions
One of the new area of research emerging in the field of statistics is the shape analysis. Shape is defined as all the geometrical information of an object whose location, scale and orientation is not of interest. Diffusion in shape analysis can be studied via either perturbation of the key coordinates identifying the initial object or random evolution of the shape itself. Reviewing the f...
متن کاملOn Calibration and Application of Logit-Based Stochastic Traffic Assignment Models
There is a growing recognition that discrete choice models are capable of providing a more realistic picture of route choice behavior. In particular, influential factors other than travel time that are found to affect the choice of route trigger the application of random utility models in the route choice literature. This paper focuses on path-based, logit-type stochastic route choice models, i...
متن کاملOptimal Stochastic Control in Continuous Time with Wiener Processes: General Results and Applications to Optimal Wildlife Management
We present a stochastic optimal control approach to wildlife management. The objective value is the present value of hunting and meat, reduced by the present value of the costs of plant damages and traffic accidents caused by the wildlife population. First, general optimal control functions and value functions are derived. Then, numerically specified optimal control functions and value func...
متن کاملModeling and forecasting of traffic dynamics from a stochastic process information-based approach
A traffic flow model based on stochastic microscopic dynamics is presented. At the same time a new parameterization approach based on information theory is introduced and tested under actual non-equilibrium traffic data. The proposed model is shown to be valid for all traffic regimes but most importantly it is used to underscore a not so well known or understood source of modeling error for cla...
متن کاملNetwork Traffic Modeling
From the viewpoint of a service provider, demands on the network are not entirely predictable. Traffic modeling is the problem of representing our understanding of dynamic demands by stochastic processes. Accurate traffic models are necessary for service providers to properly maintain quality of service. Many traffic models have been developed based on traffic measurement data. This chapter giv...
متن کاملSimulating stochastic processes with OMNeT++
Modeling of correlated traffic processes is a challenge in simulation modeling but is necessary to obtain realistic simulation models of many computer or communication networks. We present a new simple module denoted as ArrivalProcess to be included as a traffic source in OMNeT++ simulation models. The new traffic source supports different stochastic process models which are defined using a XML...
