On the discrepancy of jittered sampling

چکیده
We study the discrepancy of jittered sampling: a jittered sampling set P ⊂ [0, 1]d is generated for fixed m ∈ N by partitioning [0, 1]d into md axis aligned cubes of equal measure and placing a random point inside each of the N = md cubes. We prove that, for N sufficiently large, 1 10 d N 1 2 + 1 2d ≤ ED∗ N (P) ≤ √ d(logN) 1 2

Fast Generation of Space-filling Latin Hypercube Sample Designs
Latin Hypercube Sampling (LHS) and Jittered Sampling (JS) both achieve better convergence than standard Monte Carlo Sampling (MCS) by using stratification to obtain a more uniform selection of samples, although LHS and JS use different stratification strategies. The “Koksma-Hlawka-like inequality” bounds the error in a computed mean in terms of the sample design’s discrepancy, which is a common...
متن کاملError analysis of estimators that use combinations of stochastic sampling strategies for direct illumination
We present a theoretical analysis of error of combinations of Monte Carlo estimators used in image synthesis. Importance sampling and multiple importance sampling are popular variance-reduction strategies. Unfortunately, neither strategy improves the rate of convergence of Monte Carlo integration. Jittered sampling (a type of stratified sampling), on the other hand is known to improve the conve...

Image synthesis techniques requiringMonteCarlo integration frequentlyneed to generate uniformly distributed samples within the unit hypercube. The ideal sample generation method will maximize the variance reduction as the numberof samples increases. Strati cationvia jittering is one simple, tractable, R. L. Cook. متن کاملSimply denoise: wavefield reconstruction via jittered undersampling
In this paper, we present a new discrete undersampling scheme designed to favor wavefield reconstruction by sparsity-promoting inversion with transform elements that are localized in the Fourier domain. Our work is motivated by empirical observations in the seismic community, corroborated by recent results from compressive sampling, which indicate favorable (wavefield) reconstructions from rand...
متن کاملEstimation of Second-order Properties from Jittered Time Series
This paper considers spectral and autocovariance estimation for a zero-mean, band-limited, stationary process that has been sampled at time points jittered from a regular, equi-interval, sampling scheme. The case of interest is where the sampling scheme is near regular so that the jitter standard deviation is small compared to the sampling interval. Such situations occur with many time series c...
