چکیده
Multilayer x-ray optics provide a useful alternative to perfect crystal optics when used as beam conditioners for hard x-rays (~8 keV) in applications that do not require high energy and/or angular resolution. Perfect crystal optics, however, can be cut in such a way that allows one to partially engineer the input and output beam widths and divergence to desired values. Such optics, termed asymmetrically cut crystals, are often used to compress or expand an x-ray beam in one dimension. This trait makes crystal optics far more flexible and valuable in x-ray analysis than they would be otherwise. Due to their layered nature, standard multilayer optics are symmetric and thus, in some ways are less flexible than perfect crystal optics. By depositing a multilayer structure on a triangularly faceted substrate, such as a blazed diffraction grating or an orientationdependent etched silicon substrate, the multilayer takes on compression/expansion properties similar to those of asymmetrically cut crystal optics and will add a previously unknown level of flexibility to their design and use.

X-ray imaging of microobjects using dark field refraction-contrast method with resonantly absorbing multilayer mirrors
An x-ray multilayer mirror, specially designed to produce resonant absorption at a definite angle of incidence, may be used as an angular dispersive element for refractive x-ray radiography. In this method the signal-to-noise ratio can be significantly enhanced due to suppression of the shot noise produced by the direct beam. Refraction contrast of a copper wire 75 μm in diameter and a human ha...
متن کاملX-ray nanoscale profiling of layer-by-layer assembled metal/organophosphonate films.
The nanoscale structure of multilayer metal/phosphonate thin films prepared via a layer-by-layer assembly process was studied using specular X-ray reflectivity (XRR), X-ray fluorescence (XRF), and long-period X-ray standing wave (XSW) analysis. After the SiO(2) X-ray mirror surfaces were functionalized with a monolayer film terminated with phosphonate groups, the organic multilayer films were a...

متن کاملCharacterization of multilayer coatings by X-ray reflection
2014 Methods to deduce the parameters of a multilayer X-ray mirror from its reflectivity curve are reviewed. Inversion methods are successful for coatings with few layers and give the thickness of each layer and the roughness of each interface. A statistical description of the coating is used for coatings with many layers, and simple formulas are given to derive the average thickness error and ...

ABSTRACT Background: Coherent scattering leads to diffraction effects and especially constructive interferences. Theseinterferences carry some information about the molecular structure of the tissue. As breast cancer isthe most widespread cancer in women, this project evaluated the application of small angleX-ray scattering (SAXS) for differentiation between normal and cancerous breast tissues....
