چکیده

Thrombomodulin is an essential cofactor for the activation of the anticoagulant protein C by thrombin. We have identified the expression of thrombomodulin messenger RNA (mRNA) and protein in peripheral blood monocytes. While untreated monocytes expressed thrombomodulin mRNA by Northern blot analysis, lipopolysaccharide-treated cells had decreased mRNA expression. Thrombomodulin antigen was shown in the cytoplasm and on the surface of monocytes by immunohistochemical staining, and thrombomodulin activity was

Ganoderma Lucidum Induces the Expression of CD40/CD86 on Peripheral Blood Monocytes

Background: The major immuno-modulating effects of Ganoderma lucidum include mitogenicity and activation of immune effector cells such as T cells, macrophages and natural killer cells resulting in the production of cytokines. Objective: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the expression of CD40 and CD80 by G. lucidum-treated human peripheral blood mononuclear cells. Methods: Monocytes wer...

Synovial tissue macrophages: friend or foe?

Healthy synovial tissue includes a lining layer of synovial fibroblasts and macrophages. The influx of leucocytes during active rheumatoid arthritis (RA) includes monocytes that differentiate locally into proinflammatory macrophages, and these produce pathogenic tumour necrosis factor. During sustained remission, the synovial tissue macrophage numbers recede to normal. The constitutive presence...

Intimal lining layer macrophages but not synovial sublining macrophages display an IL-10 polarized-like phenotype in chronic synovitis

INTRODUCTION Synovial tissue macrophages play a key role in chronic inflammatory arthritis, but the contribution of different macrophage subsets in this process remains largely unknown. The main in vitro polarized macrophage subsets are classically (M1) and alternatively (M2) activated macrophages, the latter comprising interleukin (IL)-4 and IL-10 polarized cells. Here, we aimed to evaluate th...
