The E ects of Array Calibration

چکیده

This paper studies the eeect of array calibration errors on the performance of various DF (direction nding) based signal copy algorithms. Unlike blind copy methods, this class of algorithms requires an estimate of the directions of arrival (DOAs) of the signals in order to compute the copy weight vectors. Under the assumption that the observation time is suuciently long, the following algorithms are studied: classical beamforming, least squares, total least squares, linearly constrained minimum variance beamforming, and structured stochastic estimation. Expressions for the mean-square error of the signal estimates are derived as a function of the calibration errors for both the case where the DOAs are known precisely and for the case where the DOAs must be estimated.

Simulation Calibration of an Extensive Air Shower array, by a logged data set of its small prototype

Alborz observatory is an EAS array in the heights of Alborez mountain chain near Tehran. For the development of the array, more number of detectors is inevitable. The managing the financial resources and achieving the highest efficiency of the array is important for the project. Therefore, Water Cherenkov Detectors has been used for 9 months in the same way as the previous experiment with Scint...

ALMA Memo 354 Choices of Antenna Size and Number for the Atacama Compact Array

The lack of large scale structure in array maps is the result of the hole in the center of the visibility plane that arises because the smallest spacing between antennas is limited to one antenna diameter. Visibility data may be extracted for a region in the center of the hole from a single antenna map made with one array antennas. This can be accomplished by Fourier transforming the map and di...

The ASKAP Roll Axis Preliminary study of its benefits to calibration and imaging

A standard test field containing numerous strong sources has been observed twice with the ASKAP BETA system, with the third axis of motion – the roll axis – disabled for the second run. These two data sets are subjected to identical calibration and imaging pipelines in order to gauge the e↵ects of the roll axis when observing with a Phased Array Feed. Present beam forming techniques only allow ...

Bayesian Approaches for Robust Array Signal Processing

Modern techniques for sensor array signal processing are hampered by the often un realistic and overly simplistic assumptions used in their development Foremost among these assumptions are those relating to the array geometry or response including for example known sensor positions availability of complete gain phase mutual coupling calibration data uniform linear arrays etc Of course with real...

A Wave Optics Propagation Code for Multi-Conjugate Adaptive Optics

We describe the purpose and sample results of a wave optics propagation simulation developed to study multi-conjugate adaptive optics for 4-10 m class telescopes. This code was developed to assess the impact of di raction e ects and a variety of implementation error sources upon the performance of the Gemini-South MCAO system. These e ects include: Hartmann sensing with extended and elongated l...
