چکیده

In this paper, we .synthesize a new approach to 3-0 object shape recovery b y integrating qualitative shape recovery techniques and quantitative physicsbased shape estimation techniques. Specifically, we ,first use qualitative shape recovery and recognition techniques to provide strong fitting constraints on physics-based deformable model recovery techniques. Secondly, we extend our previously developed technique of fitting deformable models to occluding image contours to the case of image data captured under general orthographic, perspective, and stereo projections.

Coupled Lighting Direction and Shape Estimation from Single Images

This paper presents a new method for the simultaneous estimation of lighting direction and shape from shading. The method estimates the shape and the lighting direction using a two step iterative process. We assume an initial (possibly incorrect) estimate of the lighting position. A stiff deformable model is then fitted to the image, assuming this lighting position. Next, a least-squares estima...

On the Multi-View Fitting and Construction of Dense Deformable Face Models

Active Appearance Models (AAMs) are generative, parametric models that have been successfully used in the past to model deformable objects such as human faces. Fitting an AAM to an image consists of minimizing the error between the input image and the closest model instance; i.e. solving a nonlinear optimization problem. In this thesis we study three important topics related to deformable face ...

hp-Spectral Finite Element Analysis of Shear Deformable Beams and Plates

There are different finite element models in place for predicting the bending behavior of shear deformable beams and plates. Mostly, the literature abounds with traditional equi-spaced Langrange based low order finite element approximations using displacement formulations. However, the finite element models of Timoshenko beams and Mindlin plates with linear interpolation of all generalized disp...

Spatial-frequency analysis in the perception of perspective depth

We investigate the psychophysical and computational processes underlying the perception of depth from texture cues in perspective projections. In particular, we analyse the similarities between the processes associated with perspective and orthographic projections. Based on a series of psychophysical experiments using white noise stimuli presented in perspective projection, we suggest that the ...
