چکیده

Bone defects in the maxillofacial region vary from a small (few millimeters) periodontal defects to the large segmental defects resulting from trauma or surgical excision of malignancy. Such defects typically have complex three-dimensional structural needs, which are difficult to be restored by biomaterials alone without any osteoinduction (Hanasono, 2014; Sadigh et al., 2016). The use of autogenous bone grafts has long been considered the golden standard of comparison for new bone graft materials (Cole et al., 1995). It has the advantages of being progressively incorporated into the bone tissue (osseointegrate), resisting infection, and being potentially capable of growth (osteogenesis) (Liao et al., 2016). However, in the maxillofacial region, large defects that require bone reconstruction sometimes arise from resection of advanced malignancies. These defects requires a vast quantity of bone graft which is not easily afforded by autografts. In addition, autogenous bone graft transfer has many limitations, including donor site morbidity, difficulty restoring the complex 3-dimensional structure of the defect, significantly extending the surgical

Spontaneous differentiated squamous cell carcinoma of cheek pouch in a Syrian hamster

A 2-year-old male hamster was presented because of left facial swelling and salivation. Necropsy wasperformed and affected cheek pouch with tissue samples of regional and internal organs were submitted forhistopathological study. In histopathological examination it was found that the tumor consisted of cords andislands of tumoric epithelial cells which were diffused in the dermis. Vacoulation o...

Detection of Ki-ras messenger RNA in normal and chemically transformed hamster oral keratinocytes.

The cheek pouch of the Syrian hamster is an excellent model for the experimental study of oral carcinogenesis. The carcinogenic chemical 7,12-dimethylbenz[a]anthracene consistently produces epidermoid carcinomas in the cheek pouch of the Syrian hamster, giving rise to characteristic histopathological lesions in a time-dependent manner. We now present experimental evidence that c-Ki-ras mRNA can...

Effect of genistein on DMBA-induced oral carcinogenesis in hamster.

Genistein, an isoflavone present in soy at high concentrations and being considered the primary antitumor constituent in soy, has been known to be a natural anticancer agent in in vitro studies and experimental animal models. The present study was aimed to investigate the putative chemopreventive effect of genistein on oral carcinogenesis in hamster cheek pouch at the post-initiation stage, as ...

Heightened Immunity and Susceptibility toward Cheek Pouch Heterografts of a Mouse Leukemia in Syrian Hamsters.

Heterotransplantation of 1.0 X IO7AK-4 cells of AKR mice into cheek pouches of normal and cortisone-treated adult Syrian hamsters resulted in measurable but tran sient growth; small vascular tumors which appeared at 5-7 days regressed completely by 10-14 days. Noncortisonized hamsters vigorously rejected second-set grafts, which failed to vascularize, in considerably less time, in either the pr...
