چکیده

Insuring the progressive development of generic and disciplinespecific high-level skills in a university degree is hard. This is partly because the skills are defined broadly, in terms of multiple curriculum frameworks which have different granularity and terms. Another key challenge is the definition of skill level progression, the very ill-defined notion of maturity. This paper describes the vision of CUSP, a system for modeling high-level skills via an overlay student model for long term progression of learning. We argue that the representation of maturity and knowledge should use 5 levels.

Revisiting Ill-Definedness and the Consequences for ITSs

ITSs for ill-defined domains have attracted a lot of attention recently, which is well-deserved, as such ITSs are hard to develop. The first step towards such ITSs is reaching a wide agreement about the terminology used in the area. In this paper, we discuss the two important dimensions of ill-definedness: the domain and the instructional task. By the domain we assume declarative domain knowled...

A Constraint-Based Expert Modeling Approach for Ill-Defined Tutoring Domains

We introduce an approach for representing and diagramming machine-readable expert models for intelligent tutoring systems (ITSs) and virtual practice/training environments. Building on previous work on constraint-based expert models, we address the challenges of implementing ITS features within complex, ill-defined learning domains. Our constraint-based expert model (CBEM) can be used, in conju...

Individualizing Self-Explanation Support for Ill- Defined Tasks in Constraint-based Tutors

We present the first phase of a project with the goal of developing a general model of selfexplanation support, which could be used in constraint-based tutors for both welland ill-defined domains. We studied how human tutors provide additional support to students learning with an existing intelligent tutoring system designed to help students learn an ill-defined task (database modeling using th...

Intelligent Tutoring Systems for Ill-Defined Domains: Assessment and Feedback in Ill-Defined Domains

Intelligent tutoring systems have increased student learning in many domains with well-structured tasks such as math and science. As these successes may be applicable to ill-defined domains, is important to investigate how to apply tutoring paradigms for tasks that are ill-defined. We focus on the domain of intercultural competence, where asynchronous online discussion is a typical instructiona...
