Learning the Voronoi Centers of a Mobile Robot’s Configuration Space

چکیده
Partitioning the configuration space of a mobile robot is essential for the robot path planning task. However, most existing techniques either rely upon precise geometrical descriptions of the environment, or are static by nature. In this paper we propose a method by which the robot dynamically builds a Voronoi tessellation of its configuration space. In order to do this, we apply an adaptive -means clustering algorithm to the robot’s free space, while letting the robot explore its environment. The cluster centers, corresponding to the centers of the respective Voronoi cells, are connected into a mesh by using the Delaunay triangulation. Then, we show how the basic robot tasks can be integrated on the resulted graph.

Mobile Robot Online Motion Planning Using Generalized Voronoi Graphs
In this paper, a new online robot motion planner is developed for systematically exploring unknown environ¬ments by intelligent mobile robots in real-time applications. The algorithm takes advantage of sensory data to find an obstacle-free start-to-goal path. It does so by online calculation of the Generalized Voronoi Graph (GVG) of the free space, and utilizing a combination of depth-first an...
متن کاملLearning Conditional Effects of Actions for Robot Navigation
In this paper we describe GINKO, an integrated learning and planning system that we have applied to an autonomous mobile robot domain. The goal of GINKO’s learning system is to partition the robot’s Configuration space into regionsin which actions exhibit a uniform qualitative behavior. This partitioning is performed by an inductive learning algorithm that classifies regions of the Configuratio...
متن کاملSensor-based construction of a retract-like structure for a planar rod robot
Sensor-based planning for rod-shaped robots is necessary for the realistic deployment of noncircularly symmetric robots into unknown environments. Whereas circularly symmetric robots have two-dimensional Euclidean configuration spaces, planar rod robots posses three degrees-of-freedom, two for position and one for orientation, and hence have a three-dimensional configuration space, (2). In this...
متن کاملIncremental Updates of Configuration Space Representations for Non-Circular Mobile Robots with 2D 2.5D or 3D Obstacle Models
This paper presents techniques to incrementally update collision maps, distance maps, and Voronoi diagrams in the configuration space of non-circular mobile robots. Compared to previous work, our approach only updates the cells affected by changes in the environment. Thus, it is applicable in large workspaces and in the presence of unknown or moving obstacles. The c-space collision maps allow f...
متن کاملRobust Sliding Mode Controller for Trajectory Tracking and Attitude Control of a Nonholonomic Spherical Mobile Robot
Based on dynamic modeling, robust trajectory tracking control of attitude and position of a spherical mobile robot is proposed. In this paper, the spherical robot is composed of a spherical shell and three independent rotors which act as the inner driver mechanism. Owing to rolling without slipping assumption, the robot is subjected to two nonholonomic constraints. The state space representatio...
