Topological Relations Based on Part and Complement
نویسنده
چکیده
Classiications of the relationship between two spatial regions have been widely studied and include the 4-intersection and 9-intersection models of Egenhofer, and the RCC5 and RCC8 schemes of Cohn and his colleagues. This paper presents a new way of describing the RCC5 relation between two regions. The technique depends only on the notions of part and complement, and the central theme of the paper is that the appropriate way to develop analogues of RCC5 (and related systems) in contexts other than crisp regions is simply to use the appropriate notions of part and complement in the new context. The approach to RCC5 in this paper allows the empty region without introducing any diiculties. The use of the technique to deal with RCC8, and also to clarify the relationship of RCC8 to the 9-intersection model, is discussed. The paper includes a new generic approach to vague regions, based on the semantics of a vague region being a set of crisp regions. It is shown that one notion of part for this type of vague region takes values in a lattice of six truth values. These truth values have straightforward interpretations in terms of possible crispings of vague regions. This notion of part leads to a scheme for classifying relationships between vague regions. The paper also explains how the techniques developed can be applied to spatial regions which vary over time.

Nowadays, geospatial information systems (GIS) are widely used to solve different spatial problems based on various types of fundamental data: spatial, temporal, attribute and topological relations. Topological relations are the most important part of GIS which distinguish it from the other kinds of information technologies. One of the important mechanisms for representing topological relations...

$L$-fuzzy rough sets are extensions of the classical rough sets by relaxing theequivalence relations to $L$-relations. The topological structures induced by$L$-fuzzy rough sets have opened up the way for applications of topological factsand methods in granular computing. In this paper, we firstly prove thateach arbitrary $L$-relation can generate an Alexandrov $L$-topology.Based on this fact, w...
متن کاملVoronoi-based 9-Intersection Model for Topological Spatial Relations
Spatial relations is a key component of Geographical information science (GIS). Efforts have been made on formal definition of spatial relations and the 9-intersection model developed by Egenhofer and his collaborators is the most popular framework for the topological spatial relations. In that model, the topological relationships between two simple spatial entities A and B is transformed into ...
متن کاملDefinition and implementation of vague objects ?
Vagueness occurs often in spatial information. A concept is vague if objects exist that cannot be classified either to the concept or to its complement. Vagueness arises in the presence of borderline cases. Examples are soil maps, geological maps, forestry inventories, and vegetation maps. Soil classes, or vegetation classes are such that they cannot be defined sharply. The change from one clas...
متن کاملImproving 9-Intersection Model by Replacing the
9-intersection model is the most popular framework used for formalizing the spatial relations between two spatial objects A and B. It transforms the topological relationships between two simple spatial objects A and B into point-set topology problem in terms of the intersections of A’s boundary (A), interior (A) and exterior (A) with B’s boundary ( B), interior (B) and exterior (B). It was sh...
