Force-induced redistribution of a chemical equilibrium.

چکیده
Spiropyran (SP) mechanophores (mechanochemically reactive units) can impart the unique functionality of visual stress detection to polymers and have potential for use in smart materials with self-sensing capabilities. These color-generating mechanophores were incorporated into polyurethane via step growth polymerization. Polyurethane, which is inherently a versatile engineering polymer, possesses an optimized balance of mechanical toughness and elasticity to allow for investigation of the kinetics of the mechanochemical response of the SP mechanophore in the bulk polymer via fluorescence and absorbance measurements. The stress-induced 6-π electrocyclic ring-opening to the colored merocyanine (MC) form of the mechanophore was quantified by measuring the change in absorbance of the polymer, while it was held at constant strain. The closing kinetics of the mechanophore was also studied by fluorescence imaging. Finally, the effects of mechanical strain on the equilibrium between the SP and MC forms are reported and discussed.

Creep Stress Redistribution Analysis of Thick-Walled FGM Spheres
Time-dependent creep stress redistribution analysis of thick-walled FGM spheres subjected to an internal pressure and a uniform temperature field is investigated. The material creep and mechanical properties through the radial graded direction are assumed to obey the simple power-law variation throughout the thickness. Total strains are assumed to be the sum of elastic, thermal and creep strain...

Analytical Solutions and type curves for the constant rate radial flow of fluid in both conventional and naturally fractured reservoirs including the effect of wellbore phase redistribution are presented. An automated procedure for non-linear least square minimization using the analytical solutions and their derivatives with respect to the unknown parameters developed to analyze the pressur...

A typical passive magnetic bearing has been modeled and analyzed for its performance characteristics. The magnetic bearing studied in this work comprised of a Shaft, inner magnets sleeved over the shaft, and outer magnetic rings. A detailed analysis has been perform on the force exerted by a permanent magnet on the shaft nurture to restore the shaft to its equilibrium position when an eccentric...

Time-dependent creep analysis is crucial for the performance and reliability of piezoactuators used for high-precision positioning and load-bearing applications. In this study history of stresses, deformations and electric potential of hollow rotating cylinders made of functionally graded piezoelectric material (FGPM), e.g., PZT_7A have been investigated using Mendelson’s method of successive e...
متن کاملPc 1 induced electromagnetic lift of background plasma in the magnetosphere
We discuss the ponderomotive redistribution of ions along geomagnetic ̄eld lines due to the action of Pc 1 pulsations, using a simple di®usion equilibrium model. The ̄eld{aligned component of the ponderomotive force is derived for Alfv¶en waves as well as for ion cyclotron waves propagating in a multicomponent plasma. Our theory gives a possibility for a better understanding of the problem and ...
