چکیده

Real world applications for vehicle collection or delivery along streets usually lead to arc routing problems, with additional and complicating constraints. In this paper we focus on arc routing with an additional constraint to identify vehicle service routes with a limited number of shared nodes, i.e. vehicle service routes with a limited number of intersections. This constraint leads to solutions that are better shaped for real application purposes. We propose a new problem, the bounded overlapping MCARP (BCARP), which is defined as the mixed capacitated arc routing problem (MCARP) with an additional constraint imposing an upper bound on the number of nodes that are common to different routes. The best feasible upper bound is obtained from a modified MCARP in which the minimization criteria is given by the overlapping of the routes. We show how to compute this bound by solving a simpler problem. To obtain feasible solutions for the bigger instances of the BCARP heuristics are also proposed. Computational results taken from two well known instance sets show that, with only a small increase in total time traveled, the model BCARP produces solutions that are more attractive to implement in practice than those produced by the MCARP model. ∗Corresponding author Email addresses: [email protected] (Miguel Constantino), [email protected] (Lúıs Gouveia), [email protected] (Maria Cândida Mourão), [email protected] (Ana Catarina Nunes) Preprint submitted to European Journal of Operational Research November 18, 2014

Flow-based formulations for the Mixed Capacitated Arc Routing Problem – Lower bounds

Mixed Capacitated Arc Routing Problem (MCARP) models arise in distribution or collecting problems where activities are performed by vehicles, with limited capacity, and are continuously distributed along some predefined links (routes, streets) of an associated network. Considering directed as well as undirected required links, it is a generalization of the well known Capacitated Arc Routing pro...

Model and Solution Approach for Multi objective-multi commodity Capacitated Arc Routing Problem with Fuzzy Demand

The capacitated arc routing problem (CARP) is one of the most important routing problems with many applications in real world situations. In some real applications such as urban waste collection and etc., decision makers have to consider more than one objective and investigate the problem under uncertain situations where required edges have demand for more than one type of commodity. So, in thi...

Benchmark dataset for undirected and Mixed Capacitated Arc Routing Problems under Time restrictions with Intermediate Facilities

In this article we present benchmark datasets for the Mixed Capacitated Arc Routing Problem under Time restrictions with Intermediate Facilities (MCARPTIF). The problem is a generalisation of the Capacitated Arc Routing Problem (CARP), and closely represents waste collection routing. Four different test sets are presented, each consisting of multiple instance files, and which can be used to ben...

An Improved Particle Swarm Optimization for a Class of Capacitated Vehicle Routing Problems

Vehicle Routing Problem (VRP) is addressed to a class of problems for determining a set of vehicle routes, in which each vehicle departs from a given depot, serves a given set of customers, and returns back to the same depot. On the other hand, simultaneous delivery and pickup problems have drawn much attention in the past few years due to its high usage in real world cases. This study, therefo...

A branch-price-and-cut algorithm for the mixed capacitated general routing problem with time windows

We introduce the Mixed Capacitated General Routing Problem with Time Windows (MCGRPTW). This problem is defined over a mixed graph, for which some nodes, arcs and edges have strictly positive demand and must be serviced through a fleet of homogeneous capacitated vehicles. The aim is to find a set of least-cost vehicle routes that satisfy this requirement, while respecting pre-specified time win...
