Generation of Electromagnetic Radiation by a Time Varying Gravitational Potential in Collisions of Astronomical Objects
نویسنده
چکیده
A time varying space-time metric is shown to be a source of electromagnetic radiation. The post-Newtonian approximation is used as a realistic model of the connection between the space-time metric and a time varying gravitational potential. Large variations in the gravitational potential, during collisions of black holes or relativistic stars, are associated with the electromagnetic power spectra from gamma ray burst.

Gravitational Radiation – Observing the Dark and Dense
Astronomical observations in the electromagnetic window – microwave, radio and optical – have revealed that most of the Universe is dark. The only reason we know that dark matter exists is because of its gravitational influence on luminous matter. It is plausible that a small fraction of that dark matter is clumped, and strongly gravitating. Such systems are potential sources of gravitational r...
متن کاملCharacterizing Dark Matter Concentrations Through Magnitude Distortions due to Gravitational Lensing
In addition to observing astronomical objects through the electromagnetic radiation they give off, astronomers also study the universe by analyzing gravitational effects on mater. More specifically, one can work back from these observed effects to determine the mass distribution in the universe (both inside and outside galaxies). In this project, we worked on one specific gravitational effect: ...
متن کاملP-104: Effects of Prenatal Exposure to Electromagnetic Fields on Fertility of F1 Generation in In Vitro
Background: Electromagnetic fields interact with human tissues and may have adverse effects on fertility and reproduction. During the last decades there has been a growing concern on the effects of electromagnetic radiations on biological systems in general. Radiation risks from electromagnetic fields generated by processes such as reduced fertility and a significant decrease in implantation ra...
متن کاملA Study of Electromagnetic Radiation from Monopole Antennas on Spherical-Lossy Earth Using the Finite-Difference Time-Domain Method
Radiation from monopole antennas on spherical-lossy earth is analyzed by the finitedifference time-domain (FDTD) method in spherical coordinates. A novel generalized perfectly matched layer (PML) has been developed for the truncation of the lossy soil. For having an accurate modeling with less memory requirements, an efficient "non-uniform" mesh generation scheme is used. Also in each time step...
متن کاملThe Status of Gravitational Wave Astronomy
The existence of gravitational radiation is a direct prediction of Einstein’s theory of general relativity, published in 1916. The observation of gravitational radiation will open a new astronomical window on the universe, allowing the study of dynamic strong-field gravity, as well as many other astrophysical objects and processes impossible to observe with electromagnetic radiation. The relati...
