High Resolution 3D Reconstructions of Rocks and Composites

چکیده
High Resolution 3D Reconstructions of Rocks and Composites — Ten μm resolution 3D representations of different media, were obtained with a laboratory computer microtomograph developed from an electron microprobe column. From the original electron microprobe, only minor modifications have been required, indeed several of the utilities of the microprobe have been used to ensure high resolution radiography (2 μm). The impact of the electron beam focused onto a thin film is used to form a “point” X-ray source and the radiographic image of the sample is acquired on a CCD camera. A specimen rotation mechanism allows multiple radiograph acquisition and reconstruction of the X-ray attenuation 3D cartography. Since X-ray attenuation is directly related to density and atomic number, the microscanner provides 3D cartographs of the different phases present in the sample. System performances have been evaluated on various samples, mainly rocks and composites. Comparison with scanning electron micrographs was used when possible to validate the reconstructions. Results are mostly qualitative but already show the potential of the technique in describing 3D connectivity and topology of pore networks or 3D orientation of fibres in composites.

To Express Required CT-Scan Resolution for Porosity and Saturation Calculations in Terms of Average Grain Sizes
Despite advancements in specifying 3D internal microstructure of reservoir rocks, identifying some sensitive phenomenons are still problematic particularly due to image resolution limitation. Discretization study on such CT-scan data always has encountered with such conflicts that the original data do not fully describe the real porous media. As an alternative attractive approach, one can recon...

The derivation of 3D metric information from spherical images for interactive exploration and realistic 3D modeling is receiving great attention due to their high-resolution content, large field-of-view, lowcost, easiness, rapidity and completeness. We present a methodology for accurate 3D reconstruction from spherical (panoramic) images acquired by mosaicking separated frame images captured wi...

Recently, high-performance lightweight materials with outstanding mechanical properties have opened up their way to some sophisticated industrial applications. As one of these systems, aluminum matrix composites/nanocomposites (AMCs) offer an outstanding combination of relative density, hardness, wear resistance, and mechanical strength. Until now, several additive manufacturing methods have be...
متن کاملLow-resolution density maps from atomic models: how stepping "back" can be a step "forward".
Atomic-resolution structures have had a tremendous impact on modern biological science. Much useful information also has been gleaned by merging and correlating atomic-resolution structural details with lower-resolution (15-40 A), three-dimensional (3D) reconstructions computed from images recorded with cryo-transmission electron microscopy (cryoTEM) procedures. One way to merge these structure...
متن کاملValidation of cone beam computed tomography as a tool to explore root canal anatomy.
INTRODUCTION Cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) can provide dentists with high-quality 3-dimensional images of dental structures because of its high spatial resolution. The reconstructions of root canal systems given by the Kodak 9000 3D were compared with histologic sections to evaluate the reliability of the reconstructions. METHODS Nine intact freshly extracted teeth with closed apexes w...
