The 3GPP and 3GPP2 movements toward an all-IP mobile network

چکیده
Wireless telecommunications started as an offshoot of wireline telephony and with the absence of global standards resulted in regional standardization. Two major mobile telecommunication standards have dominated the global wireless market, namely, TDMA/CDMA developed by TIA in North America and GSM developed by ETSI in Europe. As we move toward 3 generation wireless, there is a need to develop standards, which are more global and collaborative. Recently, the global wireless industry has created two new partnership projects to address this issue: • 3 Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) [1] ,which is developing 3G standards for GSM based systems. The consortium includes ETSI, T1 (North America.), ARIB/TTC (Japan), TTA (Korea) and CWTS (China). The North American TDMA community is participating and contributing in 3GPP as ANSI-41 based TDMA systems evolve towards 3G architecture based on EDGE and GPRS. • 3 Generation Partnership Project 2 (3GPP2) [2], which is developing 3G standards for IS-95 based CDMA systems. The consortium includes TIA (N.A.), ARIB/TTC, TTA and CWTS.

The Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) has worked on network layer mobility for more than 10 years and a number of RFCs are available by now. Although the IETF mobility protocols are not present in the Internet infrastructure as of today, deployment seems to be imminent since a number of organizations, including 3GPP, 3GPP2 and Wimax, have realized the need to incorporate these protocols in...
متن کاملDeveloping Network Domain Security (NDS) Model for IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS)
In this research article we discuss the protocols, architecture and propose the design of Network Domain Security (NDS) model for IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS). The IMS is standardized by 3GPP (Third Generation Partnership Project) and 3GPP2 as next generation service delivery platform developed for IP technology on top of all access networks including mobile and fixed networks. The architectur...

lular radio networks is expected to become a critical part of future wireless operators’ service offerings [1]. However, because mobility is an essential characteristic of cellular networks, operators are faced with a confusing array of choices for how to architect such a network. The Internet Engineering Task Force’s (IETF’s) Mobile IP protocol [2] provides a standard solution for wide-area mo...
