چکیده

In this paper, we introduce the notion of volume-discrepancy (and of isotropic volume-discrepancy) of a sequences of points and we establish some of their basic properties. This notion is illustrated by an application to a reliability problem.

Excluding Regions Using Sobol Sequences in an Interval Branch-and-Prune Method for Nonlinear Systems

Traditional rejection/reduction tests used in branch-and-prune methods for nonlinear systems usually are based on various forms of the interval Newton operator and constraint propagation techniques. Hence, they are relatively costly. This paper considers an additional phase of a branchand-prune method for the exclusion of regions not containing any solutions. Low-discrepancy sequences of Sobol ...

Low-discrepancy sequences for volume properties in solid modelling

This paper investigates the use of low-discrepancy sequences for computing volume integrals in geometric modelling. An introduction to low-discrepancy point sequences is presented which explains how they can be used to replace random points in Monte Carlo methods. The relative advantages of using low-discrepancy methods compared to random point sequences are discussed theoretically, and then pr...

New star discrepancy bounds for ( t , m , s ) - nets and ( t , s ) - sequences

In this paper, we derive new general upper bounds on the star discrepancy of (t,m, s)-nets and (t, s)-sequences. These kinds of point sets are among the most widely used in quasi-Monte Carlo methods for numerical integration. By our new results, we improve on previous discrepancy bounds and prove a conjecture stated by the second author in an earlier paper.

Matrix Computations Using Quasirandom Sequences

The convergence of Monte Carlo method for numerical integration can often be improved by replacing pseudorandom numbers (PRNs) with more uniformly distributed numbers known as quasirandom numbers(QRNs). Standard Monte Carlo methods use pseudorandom sequences and provide a convergence rate of O(N−1/2) using N samples. Quasi-Monte Carlo methods use quasirandom sequences with the resulting converg...

Numerical modeling of links behavior in eccentric bracings with dual vertical links

Configuration and geometry of bracing systems affect the seismic performance of structures significantly. Recently, the current authors have introduced a new configuration for eccentric bracing of structural frames that may be assumed as the combination of inverted Y-type and rotated K-type EBFs. The resulted braced frame is called EBF-DVL, consisting of two vertical links attached together by ...
