چکیده

The characteristics and kinetics of whole-cell catalysis were investigated individually or simultaneously relative to the bio-oxidation of five monosaccharides to corresponding aldonic acids using Gluconobacter oxydans. For individual catalysis, 30 g/L glucose could be consumed completely at 3.21 g/L/h in 8 h, and arabinose was the slowestconsumed at 1.18 g/L/h in 8 h. Among five monosaccharides, the yield of xylonic acid was highest at 90.4%, and about 31.0 g/L xylonic acid could be obtained in 24 h. For simultaneous catalysis, a complex substrate competition appeared in the mixed-aldoses solution. The utilization rate of arabinose, galactose, xylose and mannose were repressed distinctly. And glucose exhibited variable inhibitory effects on the remaining four monosaccharides utilization. Higher concentration of mixed aldoses showed a tendency to minimize the difference of glucose inhibition on arabinose, galactose, xylose, and mannose conversion to corresponding acids. Thus, the total concentration and proportion between various aldoses should be properly controlled for a highly efficient production of aldonic acids from lignocellulosic material.

Bio-based 3-hydroxypropionic- and acrylic acid production from biodiesel glycerol via integrated microbial and chemical catalysis

BACKGROUND 3-Hydroxypropionic acid (3HP) and acrylic acid (AA) are industrially important platform- and secondary chemical, respectively. Their production from renewable resources by environment-friendly processes is desirable. In the present study, both chemicals were almost quantitatively produced from biodiesel-derived glycerol by an integrated process involving microbial and chemical cataly...

Manufacture of gluco-oligosaccharide prebiotic by Gluconobacter oxydans NCIMB 4943

This study investigated the optimal environmental factors for gluco-oligosaccharide production by Gluconobacter oxydans NCIMB 4943 from a range of commercial maltodextrins, and the influence of reaction parameters on the molecular weight distribution and chemical structure of the gluco-oligosaccharide products. G. oxydans gave significantly (p<0.01) higher gluco-oligosaccharide yield in maltode...

Gluconobacter oxydans: its biotechnological applications.

Gluconobacter oxydans is a gram-negative bacterium belonging to the family Acetobacteraceae. G. oxydans is an obligate aerobe, having a respiratory type of metabolism using oxygen as the terminal electron acceptor. Gluconobacter strains flourish in sugary niches e.g. ripe grapes, apples, dates, garden soil, baker's soil, honeybees, fruit, cider, beer, wine. Gluconobacter strains are non-pathoge...

Complete Genome Sequence of the Industrial Strain Gluconobacter oxydans H24

Gluconobacter oxydans is characterized by its ability to incompletely oxidize carbohydrates and alcohols. The high yields of its oxidation products and complete secretion into the medium make it important for industrial use. We report the finished genome sequence of Gluconobacter oxydans H24, an industrial strain with high l-sorbose productivity.

Enhanced production of L-sorbose from D-sorbitol by improving the mRNA abundance of sorbitol dehydrogenase in Gluconobacter oxydans WSH-003

BACKGROUND Production of L-sorbose from D-sorbitol by Gluconobacter oxydans is the first step to produce L-ascorbic acid on industrial scale. The sldhAB gene, which encodes the sorbitol dehydrogenase (SLDH), was overexpressed in an industrial strain G. oxydans WSH-003 with a strong promoter, P tufB . To enhance the mRNA abundance, a series of artificial poly(A/T) tails were added to the 3'-term...
