چکیده
This paper describes the SpectrumWare testbed and two experimental systems we are developing: an ATM-based wide-band receiver and the receive side of a GSM base station. These projects leverage recent advances in processor and analog-to-digital conversion technology that have enabled a software-oriented approach to wireless communication and distributed sample processing.

The SpectrumWare approach to wireless signal processing
The SpectrumWare project is applying a software oriented approach to wireless communication and distributed signal processing. Advances in processor and analog-to-digital conversion technology have made it possible to implement virtual radios that directly sample wide bands of the RF spectrum, and process these samples in application software. The elimination of dedicated hardware introduces tr...
متن کاملSpace-based Reconfigurable Software Defined Radio Test Bed aboard International Space Station
The National Aeronautical and Space Administration (NASA) recently launched a new software defined radio research test bed to the International Space Station. The test bed, sponsored by the Space Communications and Navigation (SCaN) Office within NASA is referred to as the SCaN Testbed. The SCaN Testbed is a highly capable communications system, composed of three software defined radios, integr...
متن کاملFAST: An FPGA-Based Simulation Testbed for ATM Networks
abstract Simulation of ATM switches and networks is a computationally demanding problem as compared to simulation of conventional packet-based networks, owing to the large number of cell events that need to be simulated in the former. To address this problem, we are developing a exible hardware testbed for simulation of ATM-based networks. The testbed, called FAST (FPGA-based ATM simulation tes...
متن کاملA Thread-Based Interface for Collective Communication on ATM Networks
This paper presents the results of an investigation of collective communication operations for distributed computing across asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) networks. Several collective operations have been implemented and studied on a three-switch ATM network testbed at Michigan State University. The methods use virtual topologies constructed from ATM virtual channels. A particular type of vir...
متن کاملA Stream-Based Configurable Computing Radio Testbed
Software radios have emerged as important tools in the development of new signal processing algorithms, networking protocols, and propagation experiments in wireless environments. With a software radio, the signal processing and modem management can be changed in a timely matter. This enables users to explore a variety of domains before committing a design to silicon. Contemporary DSP-based sof...
