چکیده

We report on a simultaneous Chandra and RossiXTE observation of the LMXB atoll bursting source 4U 1728-34 performed on 2002 March 3–5. We fitted the 1.2–35 keV continuum spectrum with a blackbody plus a Comptonized component. An overabundance of Si by a factor of ∼ 2 with respect to Solar abundance is required for a satisfactory fit. Large residuals at 6–10 keV can be fitted by a broad (FWHM ≃ 1.6 keV) Gaussian emission line, or, alternatively, by absorption edges associated with Fe I and Fe XXV at ∼ 7.1 keV and∼ 9 keV, respectively. In this interpretation, we find no evidence of broad, or narrow Fe Kα line, between 6 and 7 keV. We tested our alternative modeling of the iron Kα region by reanalyzing a previous BeppoSAX observation of 4U 1728-34, finding a general agreement with our new spectral model.

We report the results of a simultaneous Chandra and RossiXTE observation of the LMXB atoll bursting source 4U 1728-34 between 2002 March 3rd and 2002 March 5th. We report the serendipitous detection of two previously unreported pulsars from the direction of the Small Magellanic Cloud, with periods of 16.6 and 25.5 seconds. The detections are based on archival PCA data from the Rossi X-Ray Timing Explorer (RXTE). The observation leading to these detections occurred in September 2000 extending over 2.1 days with an exposure of 121ks. A possible identific...

We report the results of two Chandra X-ray Observatory High Energy Transmission Grating Spectrometer observations, made shortly after peak X-ray luminosity during the May, 2000 outburst of galactic microquasar XTE J1550−564. The observations were separated by 2.5 days. Nearly simultaneous observations were made with the Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer. We constrain the X-ray continuum emission in t...

We report for the first time the detection of long-term X-ray variability in the bright bulge source GX 354–0 (=4U 1728–34) observed with the All Sky Monitor (ASM) on board the Rossi X-Ray Timing Explorer (RXTE). The 2-year RXTE ASM database reveals significant power at ∼ 72 days. Similar behaviour was seen in the 6-year Ariel 5 ASM database, but at a period of ∼ 63 days. The timescales and lig...
