The H-Boltzmann’s Theorem for Magnetic Systems

چکیده
In a time-reversal non-invariant system the entropy production, dS/dt, may be negative. Close to the critical point of medium it is positive: larger or smaller as compared with one above critical point depending on whether the transitions from lower states to higher states of the system are more (less) probable than the reverse transitions. PACS numbers: 05.60.+w, 05.70.Fh, 05.70.Ln The entropy S is defined [1] as follows:

A Definition of the H-Functional for Heat Conduction
In this Note a mathematical formulation of a monotonically decreasing functional with respect to time (the Hfunctional) is derived for physical systems described by the diffusion equation. This returns a condition which is equivalent to the second law of thermodynamics. The H-theorem is certainly the most debated (and probably the most important) part of Boltzmann’s scientific heritage [1,2]. A...
متن کاملBoltzmann’s H-theorem, its limitations, and the birth of (fully) statistical mechanics
A comparison is made of the traditional Loschmidt (reversibility) and Zermelo (recurrence) objections to Boltzmann’s H-theorem, and its simplified variant in the Ehrenfests’ 1912 wind-tree model. The little-cited 1896 (pre-recurrence) objection of Zermelo (similar to an 1889 argument due to Poincaré) is also analysed. Significant differences between the objections are highlighted, and several o...
متن کاملStudy of Solar Magnetic and Gravitational Energies Through the Virial Theorem
Virial theorem is important for understanding stellar structures. It produces an interesting connection between magnetic and gravitational energies. Using the general form of the virial theorem including the magnetic field (toroidal magnetic field), we may explain the solar dynamo model in relation to variations of the magnetic and gravitational energies. We emphasize the role of the gravitatio...
متن کاملThe H-Theorem, Molecular Disorder and Probability: Perspectives from Boltzmann’s Lectures on Gas Theory
This paper examines Boltzmann’s responses to the Loschmidt reversibility objection to the H-theorem, as presented in his Lectures on Gas Theory. I describe and evaluate two distinct conceptions of the assumption of molecular disorder found in this work, and contrast these notions with the Stosszahlansatz, as well as with the predominant contemporary conception of molecular disorder. Both these ...
